You are just making a point?! Certainly, you don't actually WANT all of those movies/videos?

I agree...I was just thinking about how much better HD DVD could be doing in this poor economy. I think my collection would be FAR larger.

Judging by the prices I've seen for movies at Target and BestBuy, I'm starting to think Blu-ray could pretty easily become the next Laserdisc. I just can't see how the masses are going to bite on movies that are literally half-again more expensive than their DVD counterparts "that look just FINE on our HDTV." $30 for the new Batman on HD or $20 for the DVD. "DVD is just fine!", I can hear them saying.

Then, without the numbers, it's easy to see why some of the special interest and independent titles wouldn't be re-releasing right now.

It would be fascinating to find out from one of these smaller producers that already had titles produced on HD DVD, how much more expensive it is to license and distribute for Blu-ray. I know it's more expensive; the question is how much more expensive.

I agree. Is that why the studios are not rushing to release these on BD?

I think DVD or HD VOD will be the "winner".

I was not just making a point. I don't want all of them on the list, but there are several that I would like to watch in HD and I don't want to buy them all (even though they are only $8-12 now). With Netflix dropping HD DVD now and who knows when Blockbuster online will, I just may not get to see some until BD release.

I post between compiles and reboots. Smile And I don't type up lists like this, I cut and paste them from elsewhere. Wink

I blame the studios. They are not releasing them on the format that the marketplace wants. BTW, how many of these are not available on D-VHS, or whatever that dinosaur tape-based HD solution was called.

Actually, it seems the market has spoken. The Dark Knight sold 1.7 million blu-rays last week. Not bad. It sold 13.5 million DVDs. That's almost 8 times the amount! It seems pretty clear that the marketplace wants DVD as SC pointed out.

I like to think of it that its clear the marketplace wants an at-home solution.

Perhaps, but the "not at-home" solutions are in their infancy. Give them a year and if BD doesn't catch on before that, it will be DOA.

I mean at-home as opposed to having to go away from home to see things. Technology has become too affordable for folks to not do things in the home as opposed to the theater. Especially in this age.

I think you are a bit correct here. But, I can tell you, there is still quite a bit of people going to my local theater. There are a few communities being served by theaters still:
1) Teens (they want to "get out of the house"),
2) People that want to see movies when they first open (though I think simultaneous release is coming much to the chagrin of theater owners).
3) People who want to "go out". Movies and food still remain the biggest entertainment options so for dating and people that like to "go out" the movies will continue to be a draw.

Sony might be onto something though, currently people can pretty much match the theater experience in their home. 4K projections, cameras and processing along with some other perks will mean the theaters will have something they can't get in their own home.

All i can say then is that the studios and their chain owners can stop biching about how DVDs and HD is affecting their business.

I am with ya.....

Now not that my current projecter would make any difference with the format...but even still....

I'd get more enjoyment out of my theater with two titles in my hand as opposed to one reference quality flick...

Or just put the 15 bucks in the mattress to save for the next upgrade to the theater... either way I don't buy the BR disk...

But i have started a HD collection along with nabbing a super cheap HD DVD player.... Same bread as the SD DVD... that I can go for...
