I just recently upgraded from a Sony VPH-1020QM to a NEC XG 1352LC and have great expectations for it. I want to mount the NEC to the exposed ceiling joists in my basement. (The Sony was experimental and I kept it at table top level.)

I think I will have to build my own mount from Unistrut. The question I have for either the DIY or the factory mount
is, where are the attachment points on the projector? Do I use the four corners where the threaded legs go, or does the mount go somewhere else?

Thanks for any advice!

Hi Mark, welcome to the forum. DO NOT use the 4 corners where the feet go. They aren't strong ehough to support the weight. There are mounting holes in the bottom of the projector. See the 1352 manual here for more details:

Thanks for the quick response, but I have checked the manual a couple of times now and don't see any info on where to put the mount. I've checked the bottom of the case and don't see any obvious points either.

When I had a 6PGx, I did the unistrut ceiling mount. I used the mounting holes that were meant for the stock mount. There were what seemed 40 or so possible threaded holes, but I figured out where the factory mount fit and used those holes.

I know that doesnt help you know specifically what holes to use, but maybe you can find the measurements of the stock mount and find where the holes line up and use those.

The factory mount does NOT mount directly to the projector. There are two small brackets which should have come with that mount. Those attach with like four screws each to the base of the projector. Then the whole thing hangs from those brackets on the mount. There are two black knobs on the ends of the mount which allow for some tilt of the projector once it is hanging. I don't have any good pictures with me right now to illustrate this. Basically, that mount is not much good without the matching mounting ears and hardware.

Edit: I found a picture. It's not mine but one I found a while back and saved.

I believe this is on the bottom of a PG but the mount is the same. Those two little "ears" screw directly to the projector. How you attach your mount to the ceiling is another issue but once it is up there you will heave the projector up to the mount and hang it by these "ears". Then you tighten down the black knobs to keep it from tilting back and forth.

Thats what I was getting at. You can attach the unistrut to the mounting points for the two small brackets. Come to think of it, I actually had the bottom half of the mount. Embarassed Thats probably why it didnt make sense.

I still dont see why you cant use those same mounting points the two brackets use, though.[/b]

EDIT:
You pictured while I was posting. Good picture, it explains it all.

using the feet holes is a very bad idea.

The thread they use are bolted into the base in such a way that they will withstand pressure from the top (when in floor/table mode), but will just pull out when you flip the PJ over and the whole weight pulls on those threads.

So the last 3 pics in the previous post illustrate exactly how NOT to do it.

Thanks all, I now see how the factory mount works and what I should do.
