My Marquee is ceiling mounted. I had the cover off because I have been planning on doing some more magnet adjustments.

Well, in the process of spreading out a blanket (it billowed) under the projector it moved some of the wires that were hanging down a bit and then "click, zap!".

I know it was dumb to leave the wires exposed. Embarassed

So it would fire up after that but no pic, because no HV (no crackle on start up). I replaced the HVPS and the LVPS and splitter, still no HV or pic.

I then replaced the horizontal board and it started to get the HV crackle sound then "zap", it arced on the green from the boot to the red deflection yoke connection (they are quite close together). Then I believe it happened on the blue to in the same spot. I shut 'er down of course.

What could I have done by disturbing the HV and deflection wires to get this arcing? Am I in danger of blowing up the horizontal board that is in there now?

Yes, a few more arcs and the second H board will indeed die. 35Kv to yoke windings kill H and V boards.

BY fluke your HV leads are bad. They are now discontinued, but I have a bunch of good used ones here.

Make sure the replacement HVPS isn't set for 40KV. (Jumper wire on the side of the supply). That will kill the HV leads along with possibly the tubes down the road..

Thanks Curt.

Is it the rubber boot that hardens with age?
Or is the cable itself the culprit? Is it possible that re-doing the silicon under the boot will fix it?

Nope, once it arcs, they are toast. The cable or boot can go bad. I've seen both fail.
