hi i have been looking round the forum and i am abit confused about my options on my new set up

i am a student on a limited budget i am looking for a good viewing/gaming experience please bare in mind my budget in the rest of the post

i bought a barco 500 crt off ebay to connect up my laptop, freeview, wii and ps3.i would like to be able to switch between the games consoles and freeview without unpluging and re plugging things every time.

the projector has a vga to bnc lead that came with it there is a s-video port as well so i am guessing i can use one of these http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=33162&doy=9m12&C=SO&U=strat15 to switch consoles etc but that will only be 480p? i have also looked at hdfury should i use this for ps3 and laptop will that be 1080p via the vga lead or will it be male to male on the lead?

Are there any of the other ports i can use that will be a cheep and easy way to get the best quality

any help would be great cheers jay

The 500 won't do 1080p... The specs page says it'll sync to 768p, therefor it should look best with 1080i (set your sources to that as a maximum.)
As for switching, there are a number of switchers out there from Extron, NEC, and others. The Extron 202xi (IIRC) is a two-way switcher and line driver (this is important!) where you could have a fury backed up by an HDMI switcher for HDMI into one VGA input and your PC into the other.

--Edit: Composite and S-Video will only carry SD, maxing out at NTSC or (I think) PAL resolutions. The above-described kit is probably the cheapest way to get HD source switching for both VGA (laptop) and HDMI/DVI.
