They guy I bought my 1101 off is sending me a nos barco red tube,I only have to pay for shipping however, the quotes he has from ups and fedex has been 250$ us door to door,it seems a bit excessive to me considering ebayers quoting 75$ to Australia. The guy is very honest and I have no doubt he's not making money off it but what gives?

That may not be as excessive as it sounds. I think I paid $200 to get an amp shipped from London to the US. Still seems a bit high though.

Well he has the origonal box for it,but comparing to Clarence's link it should be nowhere near 250.Or is the origonal packaging adding the extra cost?I'm confused.

I'd say max cost USPS priority for that tube would be 150$

The UPS & FedEx prices quoted are retail rates and accurate.
USPS is the most economical; go online for an accurate quote. Take the LXWXH and divide by 166. That will give you the charged dimensional weight; for instance 15X15X25/166=34lb. Ship weight will be rated at 34lb. USPS will cost you about $150-$175.

Willie,
Remember this is a 9" tube so the box is likely a little larger than the boxes used for P16 tubes. Sadly it sounds like the $250 is a reasonable number as the new tubes usually are packed in much larger boxes than used tubes that end users pack and ship.

The standard shipping box for a 9" tube with Marquee LC housing from VDC is 12x12x24 inches.

I just shipped a box weighing 19lbs 13oz to Queensland from Virginia (US). 6-10 business days. Included was insurance up to $122.68.
Total cost was: $96.75.
I forgot what the exact box size was, but it was under the dimensions where there was extra charge for the size.

Too bad you don't know someone coming from the US via plane, they could maybe take it as carry on....I once got a tube from San Diego that way, total cost $0. for shipping..

I seriously doubt they would let you do that anymore?? All you'd have to do is snap the tube neck to have a great knife, not to mention all the lead and hazardous materials in the tube...

I think it should cost around $60 or $70. Curt shipped me an NEC LC tube in a 9" box for around that, I forget exactly.

A NOS air-coupled 8" red tube is worth ~$50 tops.
I'm trying to give a mate a perfect blue PG tube. Not worth trying to sell it.
