Does anyone know anything about DVD recorders?
My wife wants one to basically record vhs tapes to dvd. and also dump content off of our satellite PVR.

my thought is if I'm going to invest in one of these beasties I want it to do a lot more.
have a hard drive. perferably can accept additional hard drives via USB or NFS
stream video (1080p) to my PJ.
play most formats including mp3.

basically all the good stuff you can do with an HTPC in a commercial package.

I already asked her if I could build her an HTPC and she said with much vehemence ....NO!

The HDD recorders seemed ro have gone the way of the dodo. None that I have researched have easy compatibility ( no longer like VHS will play in any VHS,) Some DVD recorders won't play in others. HTPC seemes to me to be the best bet. However it's too complicated for most WAF.

Take a look at this...

I think Clarence ordered one after discussion in another thread. I imagine he probably has it by now - maybe he can report on it.
