When It comes to finished wiring I am AAAAAAnal. I just integrated video security system to my HT system. Now I have two more wall warts to deal with. I now have like nine wall warts in my rack. Some of them only take up one space but most don't allow a second one in the plug next to or above or below and some take up three spaces. Why the hell isn't there a standard for these things. Not only is it a wicked waste of space but it looks like $hit having that mess to look at.
I wouldn't care if they all took uo 3 spaces as long as it was consistant. Rolling Eyes

Couple of options:

1) Look for the wall warts that plug sideways onto an outlet, those are the best invention of the last 10 years. NEver take up more than 1 outlet slot.

2) Get a Middle Atlantic power strip that can be from 3-6' long. Better quality than the average power bar, and with the spacing, you can use the big wall warts.

I used a Tripp Lite in my rack - it's 5 feet long and the outlets are spaced apart far enough to accommodate most wall warts. They're very reasonable on Amazon or from other resellers. I have a PS 4816, and I think I paid about $40 for it with shipping. When I get back home, I'll shoot a photo of the back of my rack. I finally got it dressed, and I think it looks pretty sweet for an amateur job - wall warts and all!

You can get them on Amazon, too -

Hey Chip

If you have a number of devices needing all the same voltage; get a larger DC bench unit of sufficient amperage and split the output with home made branched cabling.

I actually had given that a thought but haven't looked to see how many are the same. I know there are many 12 VDC ones in my system so that's a option. What are the odds that they are ALL 12 VDC??? At least I could eleiminate those ones. Thanks Tim.

I was just at Lowes... They've got a multi-outlet strip with the outlets a few inches apart. I think the length was 48", priced about thirty bucks.

Chip why not build your own and add as many out puts as you want. Boilermaker is going to make one based on this design but he is improving it for better performance.
Maybe he can make one for you if he gets time or you can make one. I plan to using this design. hopefully bob will tell what his changes were.

Ya know, even if they weren't, I could build a SUPERWALLWART with everything from 3 volt to 18 volt outputs, all at 3 amps. Of course, it would take up the space of 18 duplex outlets, so I'm not sure how useful it would be.. Mr. Green

You know it took me a while to figure out what a wall wart was. Embarassed I just call them bricks.

Those are actually two different things, Mike. Bricks or power bricks are usually the thing that has cord on both ends - like for a laptop or notebook computer. Wall warts are the plastic covered transformer abomination with protruding prongs that junk up the wall, strip, or whatever else they're plugged into.

Here's the Tripp Lite 4816 in my rack with a couple of wall warts at the top:

Nice rack. I usually reserve that comment for females with the obvious. Wink

Some of you guys spend so much energy on such trivial things!

Why are you looking at Wall Warts? They should be hidden from view in the back. And, to solve your problem, just get a squid.

A trait common to the (good) tradesmen I know... The guy who has to clean up the messes created by butchers and hacks that came before are the ones who really, REALLY get anal about their own property.

OK, perhaps I'm dumb here, please explain to me how spending so much time and energy bitching about Wall Warts makes sense? This is not something that one can influence. It is not a "how do you deal with lots of Wall Warts", but just a pointless rant. I guess I'm clueless as I don't understand spending energy spend on pointless pursuits. Very Happy
