Does the BarcoGraphics 808s have component inputs?

According to the BarcoGraphics 808s Brochure:

Quote:
Inputs
• RGB or Component (R-Y, B-Y, Y)
input on 5 BNC-connectors, with
sync on green or separate sync,
automatic sync detection and
sync polarity
• RGB analog input on D9-
connector with automatic sync
detection and sync polarity
(optional D9-BNC adapter
available)

emphasis mine

But on this site on the CRT Projector Specifications > Barco page, it only lists V/S/R (composite, S-video, and RGB) inputs for the BG 808s.

Yes, but only 480p compatible. It's more or less useless.

Ah, I see. At least it will allow me to hook up my DVD player to get started (this will be my first projector).

So do you just plug the component cables (with BNC adaptors) into the same inputs that you would plug RGB cables into; and it will autodetect that it is a component signal?

Does it also have a VGA input for easily hooking up a PC? Is there a recommended resolution and refresh rate that I should run the PC at for watching DVDs, and is there a recommended DVD playback program? How about when watching HD content on the PC? Is a PC capable of delivering a 1080i signal?

The RGBHV (5BNC) input on the Barco is what you're calling the "VGA" input. Same thing. (Though to be correct, VGA isn't a signal type).

Your other questions are best asked in the HTPC forum here. Most of us don't bother with HTPCs anymore given how good/cheap Blu-ray players are available.

I know that a "VGA" carries RGB (though not all RGB is the same), but I was referring to this part of the brochure:

• RGB analog input on D9-
connector with automatic sync
detection and sync polarity
(optional D9-BNC adapter
available)

That's talking about what is commonly called a "VGA connection", correct? And also, is that information correct; i.e., does it really have a VGA input?

Thanks; I'll look at that forum. I like the idea of a PC because I can playback any format and also store movies on the harddrive(s).

808s takes all common type RGB signals up to 1200p or something, like RGBHV from your video cards vga out. Use vga -> 5 x bnc cable with your pc, it gives better picture than vga -> D9 cable (need to be custom made "Barco" pin out). Input board is much newer design than port3 board...

YPbPr input is only for 480p, but you don't need this with pc.

You have to choose input 6 when feeding component into the RGB BNC port 5. I did it for a while to use a Wii with my 808s until I got an AV receiver that could send everything to the projector as HDMI. You plug the cables in as you would expect Pr/Cr to Red, Pb/Cb to Blue and Y to Green, but don't expect fantastic quality.

As others have said it will only support SD resolutions (480p / 576p) as standard on component - unless you have got lucky and have an upgraded chassis. I think the upgraded component input appears as input 7 if fitted. If not you are better off going down the HTPC route and using the VGA inputs, or getting a HDFury so you can plug DVI/HDMI sources into it.

Okay, I was thinking the standard VGA connector like on a PC video card was DE-9 (it used to be, ages ago I guess), but it is actually DE-15 (AKA: HD-15), which is the same size connector, but with more pins. Plus, judging from your post, I wouldn't want to use the D9 connector on the projector anyway.

So I need the "SVGA to 5 BNC breakout cables" that is sold on this site (link) for $25, is that correct?

That looks like the right cable.
