....as they say in my favorite movie (Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure)...'strange things are afoot at the Circle K...".
I thought buying 25 Barco 708s and Cine 7s was ludicrous. I'm about to top that. Volume wise compared to the 70X by oh, 3 X or so?
Anyone know the crumbling capacity of concrete driveways?

'Round here driveways have to have steel re-bar or at least fiberglass reinforcement to make it pass code.
So if'n you've got one of those.... just stack em!!!

A LOT more than what you'd get stacking projectors on it.

Don't go too crazy Curt unless you plan on ridiculously low prices! I think you have at best 1 year of CRT sales left then maybe 2-4 years of parts. After that, I don't think there will be enough to be worth your while. Also, I don't think that 2-4 years is going to be "booming" as used 1080p digitals that are quite acceptable to most people are already hitting below $1500. In two years, they will be close to $800. Swapping instead of a $200+ repair will become the choice for most.
Don't want to see you get stuck with a bunch of sets like FH Video (though I don't think you'll be AS stuck).

Hell with the driveway...I want to know why you're back isn't as bad as mine! It would be interesting if there was a way to calculate the cumulative load on your back from all the years of lifting these beasties.

Interesting thread. I don't even look in the obvious places anymore. Killer deal or not, I'm just not interested in buying anymore CRT's. As it is, by the time I run out of projectors JVC will be marketing a RS-69 and I'll eat that right up

Dave, does FH STILL have some of the pile of G90's? I know he did two years ago when I talked to him at CEDIA. Back then, he was asking a price that was probably a bit of a tough sell... Now, half that price would probably be a tough sell. Anybody talked to FH lately to see how the reality of the market has impacted his asking prices?

I wouldn't count on Curt being stuck with the sets, I seem to recall many of his sales are to people not using them in HT where the conditions really call for a CRT.

I bought 29 Barco G808s as Tim said.
No worries, shipping is more than what I paid for them. Figures.
I also bought 2 G90s, a Vision 1, 25 Barco 708, a couple of NECs, A g70 and was given two sets locally this week.
But.. for those that have BG808s, it looks like I'll have a few decent tube sets, and you know how hard those are to get. Ditto for the post 1998 HV quadruplers and EHT boards.
I think I posted before, for the last 3 years, parts shipping has doubled each year. It's literally about 15-20 boxes of parts and repairs sent out each week, whereas a couple of years ago it was maybe 5-6 boxes a weeek?
I'll be doing some serious housekeeping in the next 2 weeks to get rid of old stuff that isn't moving. I need the space.. badly.
Time to finally get rid of ES focusing almost altogether, save for some ECP and Zenith parts. See the buy/sell section soon...
I'm also working on a deal to get a messload of super high end sets and modules in. Not sure if it will fly, but a simple inquiry is turning into potentially something much much more. That will be good for anyone with late model sets. That's all I'm saying..
No question that CRTs are slowing down, but I always knew my board level repair skills would keep me in this for a while. Mind you, apparently some of you have desoldering skills that I don't, and I need to catch up with that. I'll spend $1K on desoldering equipment so I can repair $50 camcorders..
MInd you, with everyone else getting out of it, I'm busier than ever. I still get weekly 'I thought CRT was too expensive, but man, these digitals are bankrupting me..' emails. T'aint dead yet...

BTW, it's still interesting to see that there's weekly forum members signing up that own CRTs, old and new. This last week I've seen maybe 3-4 new members that didn't sign up here for the third party items...
And....one insistent emailer that didn't get my first reply when I said the Fury wasn't stocked in North America, 4 emails later, he finally got that he wouldn't be able to get one overnight...

That's true. I always forget it isn't just HT'ers that are still using CRT. In fact, last summer, I was at an Air National Guard facility in Connecticut that had an A-10 Full Mission Trainer (sim) that had 3 or 4 808's in it. Not sure which 808, but 808's nonetheless. So, there should be some market for awhile for replacement parts or even whole projectors, since it could be quite cost-effective to simply replace an entire set of projectors instead of replacing the entire simulator with something new (which is insanely expensive - as in hundreds of thousands of dollars per unit).

A number of those clients are now with me. Barco's support is spotty apparently, E'home is expensive. Seems like very few Sonys and NECs are still being used corporately. I can't remember the last time I sold an XG or PG, mind you, I do have two recent inquiries that I still need to finalize, but Marquees and BArcos are where it's at for the industrial client.
A local marine crane simulator got decommissioned last year that had two Data 808 in it. I did a service call on one of them, then bought the sets for $250 each. Massive horizon burns in the tubes, but the chassis worked fine, and had 5000 hours on each set. One is still here, the other is parted out long ago.
I got to play with the simulator when I repaired it about 4 years ago. the whole chassis was on hydraulics. Even though the simulator was animated rendering, you got massive vertigo when looking at the 'floor' of the crane, which was the projected image of containers far, far below. A very cool setup. The hydraulics shook the set as the crane coupled and uncoupled the containers.

Calm down AR, not for a while yet. You might get that AmPro 4000 running just in time for all of us to call it a night.

Thats like saying people are getting out of records. Guess what records are still here after nearly 30 years of CD.

I don't know what he is selling them for now, but yes, he has them still--because NO ONE is buying them. Art told him not to buy them that the market would be dead before he could move a fraction of them. Hell, he still has D50s. Can you even give that f*cker away!

True, but I doubt there are many sales of used CRTs to the flight sim market. Lots of repair work--sure. Sales of used sets--I doubt it.
