Read this a couple weeks ago and it looks like good news for people wanting hot-rodded video chains with possibly faster turn-around times?

Also and as mentioned before, I'm sending my mods to Curt. Not sure how much and which of them he's willing to do. But I have a box of stuff going out to him. And hopefully he'll feel comfortable doing more than the Marquee mods.

THat indeed is the plan. I've seen a few MP boards here, the work itself is straightforward. He is sending me a couple of samples, heck, they might even be here in the 20 boxes I need to get to (out of town last week, got a killer cold/flu on Monday that put me flat out MOnday and Tuesday, recovering today.

I want to mod a few boards and keep them in stock here so I can do an instant turnaround for anyone wanting them. I might even offer them as a super duper bonus for anyone buying 9" sets off me as a lower $$ upgrade; it will all depend on the time it takes to do them and the $$ invested in parts. I will do a major announcement once it's all in place.

Marquee only for now I think, unless he sent me some Barco board samples. Haven't seen those before.

Oh, and did I mention, the mods are 200% improved now. (inside joke for those in the know..Wink)

That bytes! One of my lingering concerns was if I mod boards then I'm stuck getting support from those that modded them. If they were to fold up business I'm out as soon as a board goes down (ie. turm my CRT into a digital)
So while on the subject would you be able to repair modded boards Curt? Hope this doesn't present too sensitive of an issue for others. if so simply delete the post.

No problem repairing boards. The mods I've seen from Mike are solidly done, no reason to think that his modded area would fail sooner than anywhere else in the board, but I can mod them.

That's why I have not recommended 'other' mods. Stuff that isn't CAREFULLY researched and executed usually turn into reliability and performance nightmares. Been there, seen that in the audio industry. A long time ago some guy brought a BiAmp 2500 (250 watt per channel power amp) into my repair shop. He'd 'modded' every capacitor in the set with large pink 'audiophile' caps, all hanging off the PC board by 3" wires! I refused to touch it, and he left, completely pissed off.

BUt I digress...Smile

I have had a set of MP modded boards in my Marquee for at least 3 years now, not a single problem with them or anything else on the machine for that matter. Thumbs Up
AAMOF, I would go so far as to say that a set of MP modded boards are a lot LESS likely to develop a problem since all the usual suspects like caps and such are replaced during mod.

I'll counter that slightly..Smile

Seems like there's no real 'single' culprit on the VIM boards in general, other than the occasional blown fuse, usually due to the first run Moome cards. THe neck boards also seem to have problems all over the map. Not that they are problematic per se, there just aren't too many failures that I can say 'yep, there's another one of those with that problem'.

Well figures, as the Barco mods weren't completed/working (yet), looks like Mr. 200% is currently the only one doing and supplying Barco board mods.

I am not the engineering type, I've been trained to diagnose and fix other engineer's effups..Very Happy

Seriously, I don't have the time, patience or means to figure out video mod upgrades, so we'll have to make do with what Mike has already engineered.
