The 993 isn't listed in the cross reference. Is it possibly a 933? Either way if it has decent tubes it would be a great deal at that price. I would buy both if I could. If it is actually a 993 it is probably a nice Barco.

Could it be a 943? If so, its a Barco 708 with color filtered HD145 lenses. That would be a steal for the lenses alone.

Your 1020 can't even do progressive scan.

Bingo, we have a winner!
Seriously, you could have the best set up 1020 in the world and just about any CRT (or any $400 used 720p digital for that matter) will blow it away.
The only thing that might give you pause is that the XG series are VERY loud. No, louder than you are thinking...louder than that...little louder...OK, that's how loud. Yep, not good for home theater without using a hushbox.

Looks like a typo for a 933 (6pg xtra). If you had a choice between the two the 991 is a better projector.

In NZ that usually means, we have no interest in helping you in any way (no one around here know about CRTS) secondly, i am in the final year of an electonic engineering degree, and lastly, eh, at 20 bucks, no big loss, i could probably sell the tubes to curt and still be up on where i started

Make sure they have the remotes for them, if not, that's another $100 to get the set tested and working. I'd offer no more than $200 each. At that price, you could part them out and get your money back methinks.

Where do you see $20? These are auctions.... doesn't mean they'll sell for $20.
I'm an EE too, but a lot of good that does me if the tubes are completely toast.

You can see the phosphor of the PG in the picture, the blue, at least(through the lens), doesn't show the telltale brown of a burned tube. Either of those projectors is so much better than your current one they're like airport spotlights and you have a book of matches...

Well, I'm the guy that bought the Runco 991 in the above auction.
Thought of going for them both, but...
This is my first CRT projector. but I've been making a little money recently buying buggered up CRT RPTV's and fixing them, so figured that it was fairly similar. Seems that I was right on that note.
I've taken the lenses off, the green tube has a bit of burn going on. but it doesn't look too bad. I'm not sure how bad bad is though...
you can see a slightly darker patch on the tube.
The red has a barely distinguishable burn on it. and the blue looks perfect.
They fire up all good and well and I've had a play round with the thing on the wall and it doesn't look too bad asside from the boogie convergence.
I suppose the next step is to get the remote. Pitty it didnt come with it. Is it at all possible to converge with a computer using the NEC software? I don't have the little camera thing, but I've made the serial cable and that seems to work ok.
What else should I be looking for to see if there is anything else that needs fixing?
Cheers,
Matt

pretty much everything but point convergence works from the PC Software (if your PJ is one of the supported models).
