Hello,

I am going to be selling my tubes from my Marquee 8000. What do I sell? Just the tubes themselves or with hardware on them? Also, what is the best way to pack them for shipping?

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

John,

I can't help you on the packing, but in general, unless you have a another buyer for the magnetics, it makes more sense to sell them with all the hardware in place. That makes it a lot easier for a buyer to drop them in and align them quickly.

Also, if you're definitely getting a G70 now, go ahead and sell those. However, if you might wind up with a newer Marquee or a Barco, you might want to hang on to those tubes, either as backup spares or immediate replacements if the tubes aren't so hot on the PJ you wind up getting.

Sell with allt he magnetics, just romove the front aluminum plate that has the schleimlug bolts/hold the lens on. That you can scrap for the aluminum or sell seperatly if anyone needs them for doing a HD 144 lens swap . If you can find that sturdy hard foam and cut it to fit around the front of the tube and housing and then cut the outer edge to the shape of the box. Also use it to cut a second and third pieces for the middle and end of the tube. Make sure its all snug so the tube can not shift in the box. then for good measure stuff large sized bubble wrap in the open areas around and under the tube. Use a sturdy box, 12x12x24 at least for each tube and have it open from the 24" top not the 12x12 side, this will make it easier to pack and for the buyer to open.

Thanks for those tips. By the way, should I send it with the solid white plastic casing on it too?

the yokes used in 1993 marquees are not the best, the sales brochure for the 8500 mentions "new magnetics for improved beam size and focus" or some such thing. They actually went to a finer gauge wire and a tighter winding in late 94/95.
I would still leave them the old ones on but if they're going into an 8500 i would let the buyer know yoke swap is strongly advised. Also, I have plenty of the newer yokes here if someone needs them.
