Hi... not sure if anyone has tried this, but I'd like to turn off the fans on the Marquee 8500 when I power off the machine. Was thinking of cutting into the power circuit and splicing this in:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/2-NIB-Solid-State-Programmable-AC-DC-Time-Delay-Relays_W0QQitemZ270288698509QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item270288698509&_trkparms=39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A1%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

so that the fan turns off after 5 minutes after the power is turned off (rather than pulling the plug out and potentially loosing convergence if the internal battery goes flat). Anyone have any comments if this is a good thing or a bad thing to do?

Cheers,

Kevin.

it's a bad thing to do, the LVPS needs fan's runing when it's plugged in because there is still power running through it for things like keeping the tube filaments warm. Instead of unplugging it, get a tripp lite iso-boar and simply swtich it off.

Hello

If it is a noise issue you need the E-Tech fan mod, as described in the sticky's.

Why would you want to power up the filament's when not in use ? Seems like that would reduce tube life and light output.

they're not powered up at all, as in emitting an actual electron cloud. They have simply enough juice to keep them warm. Under these circumstances, and as long as the 6.35 voltage is stable, their have been documented cases of original tubes with tens of thousands of hours on them.
