I thought I'd start a new thread on this as it seems to be a major problem.
I thought I would clean the connectors for the blue tube with some proper connector cleaner spray,let it dry for an hour then went to turn it on and low and behold another friggin problem.
NOW it wont turn on!when i switch it on the leds light up on the tubes and you can see the tubes at the back glow slightly but the tube faces dont light up and the fans dont come on.The red standby light on the back doesnt go green either.
I've opened the back tray and notice the error led is coming on intermitantly,every 10 seconds or so when the pj is off.I've disonnected the blue and still the same.

Upon doing a search on curts FAQ's regarding barco power supply problems,I've pulled out the EHT and smps and no change,I've also pulled out all boards and still no change.Should I disconnect all leads from blue tube and then do the same procedure with all boards or am I missing something

WTF Shocked

What have I done?I am at the mercy of you guys so pleeeeeeeeeese someone help!

Update.I've unplugged everything off the blue,pulled out the EHT.....nothing..then the SMPS and still nothing!This is driving me nuts Sad

If its not a power suppy or board issue what the hell is it?

Unplug blue neck board and hv-cable and try to power on without blue tube connected.

have you pulled out the convergence tray? If so and it still doesn't power up, the SMPS is bad. I can repair that.

I've unplugged the blue neckboard and hv cable as ILe suggested and nothing,and the convergence tray as Curt suggested and still nothing!
Curt!I thought it was the power supply if it WOULD turn on without the SMPS as per your instructions elsewhere on the site.
If it is the power supply,what has caused it?the blue?shouldnt I sort out the problem with the blue first before getting something ese fixed which wasn't the problem in the first place?

Where do you have Red LED's showing ? Also take a look at the EHT module there is a Red LED inside a small window. What does your controller LED's tell you ?

THere are two power supplies (SMPS) in the set, both on the same board (OK three really, but who's counting? Smile

)

The standby supply that drives most of the controller board, the keypad and the IR sensors is on the SMPS sub board. If that is not working, you get nothing, a completely dead set, no red LED on the back. THat supply runs any time the set is plugged into power, whether the set is turned on or not. Otherwise the IR sensors would not be working to turn the set on.

Since the red LED is on on the back, that sub supply is working.

The main supply(ies) is on the main board of the SMPS. That is what is not powering up. CHances are it is a fluke that it died while you were working on the blue tube, the SMPS are supposed to be short circuit proof, and usually they are. SInce you've disconnected all components that can cause the SMPS itself not to fire up, that leaves the SMPS itself.

Mr Hug,

Please consider the possibility that while you were removing and replacing tubes, one
of the very fragile ceramic resistors on the scan board may have detached, which
may be causing a hold-down due to incomplete scan circuit...

Also check that all the H-deflection yoke connectors on the scan board are lined up
correctly - one pin off on any connector and there will be no joy...

Regarding the blue convergence issue - I would check in the convergence tray that the
connections on the cables between the conv driver and output boards are well seated and no
small yellow wires are under strain - sometimes they can catch on the rivets in the chassis
during assembly and cause similar problems...

Sounds like a short on one of the power rails or a problem with the SMPS. First I would check the fuses and look for bad solder joints on the SMPS.
If all looks OK you could try pulling one card at a time to find the short. All was working OK till you pulled the tubes. Are you sure everything was put back where you found it properly ? Also You might have created a short and blew a fuse. Do you have a service manual ? First you need to get the fans up and running as the projector will shut down with no fans also....

The fans are powered right from the SMPS. THe SMPS is bad.
