I got an XG 75 a couple months ago, got it pretty much dialed in and was loving it. No problems.
Then, I was just doing a little convergence tweaking, had the crosshairs up, did some convergence and then hit the 'save' button - it did not result in a 'save' screen coming up. I hit the exit button a couple of times and got video back - and it looked great.
Since then, all attempts to enter any menu, using either the small or big remote (thus it is a problem internal to the PJ and not with the remotes), have no effect. Some buttons still function: power on and off, R,G and B (toggles the guns as expected), Kelvin (whenever I power up now, I get a hazey poorly colored screen that clears up if i hit Kelvin - although it clearly only offers the one kelvin option and results in no menu), and 'Point'. Point results in a cross pattern and allows me to actually make convergence changes (i can move the cursor, the 'ctrl' button works to put the cursors into adjust mode and select the color being controlled, etc). It seems to do an auto save since the changes made obviously stay in effect through subsequent power cycles. The exit button works, but no menus result - what previously would have resulted in 'backing up' to the previous menu, simply leaves the cross hatch pattern until after several depressions, it goes back to the video.
If I were to venture a guess (being quite unfamiliar with NEC) it would seem that something is likely amiss in the firmware and can hopefully be reset/reloaded. If something like this happens with my old Barcos, simply cycling the power typically resets everything and goes back to normal.
One other detail i have noted that should likely shed some light to the astute reader - previously, upon power down, i would see a momentary flash of the information that normally comes up when the 'display' button (date, time, input source, etc) was depressed. Now upon power down, no such flash of info occurs - in other words, the menus and displays simply won't appear any longer for any reason. This leads me to suspect that the problem has something to do with the display mechinism. Does information associated with 'display' get rendered independently then mixed with the final image? If so, what could cause this display rendering to cease?
I have no idea where to begin on this. Any help whatsoever would be an advancement on what i currently know to do.
Thanks,
