I'm still scratching my head. The picture on my much loved marquee disappeared and after checking the usual bad connections etc i have come up with nought. It is still booting up, making the usual sounds but I can't even raise the internal menu, source message etc. There is no error light. My first thought was that perhaps a simple fuse had blown, but now that I cant find any fuses to blame...perhaps it's more serious.
Would anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
Rob

Hi Rob. Have you checked the heater voltage at the P14 connector? (Should be around 6.35V) Do you hear the high voltage crackle? Have you tried cranking up contrast and brightness to 100 to see if you get some type of image? How are you feeiing it? External t-coder? Moome? BNC? You could disconnect one neck board at a time (unplug the leads to it not just pull the NB off the tube) and see what happens. One bad NB could stop it cold.

As a last resort you could reset it. You won't be able to choose Full Reinit from the menu but you can press the Reset button at least. I've often wondered in cases like this if temporarily shorting the memory battery would accomplish the same thing as selecting full Reinit from the menu.

I'm not the technical guy to ask but I had a parts machine 8500 that I thought I could resurrect that was doing the same thing. I swapped every board I could into that thing from a good working machine and never did get it fixed. The only thing I didn't swap was the backplane and the motherboard. Too bad too. The tubes are all pristine 'looking'. The cathodes in them could be shot tho as it was shipped poorly.
I'll know better when I get my VIM back from Mike Parker and can get the (tubes) into the pj while it's down to test them.

AU is a huge place I know but is there anybody near who might have spare parts or be willing to let you gamble with their boards and PS's to check it out?

I dunno but I can't wait for the pro's to comment as this has been bugging me since I gave up and parted it out a year ago. (male ego ya know). Laughing Good luck.

TV/Projector: All of them!

THE HVPS could be bad, you'd need to swap that out to see if that's it, there's no other testing to do on the HVPS.

The H board could be bad, some faults don't give error codes on the back of the set and will cause no pix.

Any of the video neck boards (CRT sockets) could be bad, shutting down the HV.

Also, a shorted/imploded tube can cause that as well. Disconnect each tube's HV lead and pull off the corresponding CRT socket. See if the other two tubes will fire up. I can test the H board/HVPS for you if you want to send them up, or I have spares of each as well.
