Hi guys

What the hell means error C3 on a 1272? It is not listed in the error code on service manual...

The CRT starts and shuts down almost immediately only if a picture is displayed. If I left it running with no signal, or with a low brightness signal like a DVD menu it stays on forever...

Thanks

Antonio

I can't find C3...but if it is 03 it might be a fan stop....check if all fans are working during start up

The CRT is not mine, but my friend is sure it's C3, the CRT is not on ceiling, so no inverted code Smile

Perhaps a bad indicator (some legs miss?)

If it is a fan failure it shuts down immediately, or the fan failure must occure some later.
Can you see some other failures flashing before the c3 comes?
On my 1292 I had a sequence of failures on the display but after all it starts up fine.

No, if you push PAGE immediately and turn off the white warming page the set stays on forever, so no FAN issue.

I was told that if you run a DVD menu it's ok, if you run a movie the picture starts to show some issue and then shuts down with C3.

Yes, I should describe what kind o picture issue, I'll ask better and I'll post here something better soon! Smile

Thanks!!

So then you could say that it looks like a powersupply failure, because a full white draws full power and a static dvd menu is darker.
Maybe one of the cables on the PS boards (PA or the smaller one) is loose or one of the big boards on top (with the blue capacitors) has some issues.
I think you could start with reseating all the cables and maybe inspect the top boards for bad solder joints.

Yes, that's aexactly what I told to my friend.

What I miss is why the error code is not listed on the service manual...

Aside from the error code, your description sounds like the IK protection circuit. Various issues can trigger this circuit. I would first check G2 using the guide in the manual.

Here's what happen

http://img95.imageshack.us/my.php?image=test1mz2.jpg

With brightness set to 10 and contrast to 20 the CRT will show any picture. When these values are raised, happens what is reported in the shoot.

The CRT will shuts down even with black screen, but high brightness setting (so that the raster become visible).

Any suggestion? LVPS or HVPS?

What were the voltages that you set G2 at? Still looks like an IK shutdown issue. If you reset G2 properly and its still doing it then could be a neckboard (try disconnecting one at a time and see if it shutsdown), could be a tube.

I'll tell him to check G2. Can the set be run without neckboard safetly? Just disconnecting them?

The neckboard itself doesn't really have much on it but by disconnecting one at a time should eliminate a tube problem. Most of the video processing and IK detection is on the video out board. I would also suggest that you try turning off ABL if you can get a menu up.

No, I meant ABL (auto brightness limiter). Smile I saw the circuitry for it on the video board schematic and figured you could shut it off because many displays will allow it. But I checked your manual and your correct there is not a selection for it. However I did see a setting in there for clamp and you should check it to make sure its on auto, Also I would double check the bias and gain settings to make sure none of them got cranked up. Plus the other suggestions I posted, especially the G2.

Do you have a method for adjusting the G2 on this 1272?

Ah, ok. No, it can be disabled, you're right.

Thanks for the clamp suggestion. here's the BIAS and GAIN, but I think it's useless, each set has its values. However, they're not cranked.

I'll have my friend to reset the G2, but I understood that the set was working before it was moved, so I'll have him reseat everything before touching it.

Yes, I have a method, I posted it somwhere, if you make a search you can find it.
My only "customization" is to set the gain and bias to 128 before start since the manual says to set them to the factory default but on the service manual there is no explanation on how this default is made Smile

Ok, if we turn off the GREEN by remote, the set works properly.

Now what? I cannot swap neckboards between tubes because of short cable.

Correct me if I'm wrong:

1. Disconnect neckboard from green and turn on the set with neckboard disconnected: this will tell us if the tube is shorted.
2. Swap RCA input cable of video boards between blue and green: this will tell us if the fault is before or after

Thanks!

You can give it a try but swapping the cables is not conclusive. The drive and background for each color come in on a different line. But see what happens, but be specific of what you find.
