I PAID Pilot Air to pack these sets. Check this out. Overhanging on each pallet. I asked them to pack 2 sets per pallet, they packed 8 per pallet. Check out these lenses...

Geez, I could have done a better job if I had just tossed them all in the trunk of my car! Idiots!

What complete morons. I assume they'll be settling for most of the damage since the projectors were packed so stupidly... I mean, it isn't like you didn't specify exactly how you wanted them palletized, right?
What a bunch of monkeys.

Let me ask you guys this:
I valued the shipment at $2000.00. They are charging me $3K for packing/shipping. I haven't paid the shipping bill yet. I figure I'll ask for a $1500 reimbursement on this claim..
Should I only pay $1500 for shipping at this point, seeing how trucking/courier companies try and deny all claims, or legally do I need to pay the bill in full, and wait for them to pay me out?
Luckily THEY packed it, so I'd like to see them deny the claim due to improper packaging..

The only legality involved would be whats in the contract between you and Pilot Air. If the contract requires the bill to be paid in full before any negotiations of a claim, then thats the legality part of it. If it doesn't spell it out in claim procedures then I wouldn't pay anything until an agreement is decided even more so since they packaged and shipped it. They have full responsibility.

Oh, and also do you have it in writing to only place 2 projectors per pallet?

Yes they are. I think 5 sets are shot, but I might have some front lens parts here that I can rescue 1 or 2 sets from. Most are OK though...

this is an OUTRAGE. Why is ti when someone is told to something a certain way they feel they don't have to listen to you, that their way is better than yours. Because I sure their claim is "I've been packing things for 3 weeks I have more knowledge on how to pack than you do." Why cant people do things as their told???
Curt I hope you get this resolved with very little lose on your part. And now we know not to let Pilot Air pack our things for shipping!!

Funny, they did OK before, this is I think the second shipment in 3-4 years that they've messed up. As with a video/stereo system, the whole package is only as good as it's weakest link. The packer in this case was the weakest link..

WOW
What were they thinking?? Or is that it...they weren't?!
I hope you can find a better shipper.....it may have only happened twice in the last 3-4 years, but if the 1st time results were anything similar to this.....

I think Curt will agree that good, reasonable shippers are hard to find. I think the main thing now is if there are going to pay up for their mistake. Have you had any more contact with Pilot, Curt? Was someone there when the shipment was delivered to confirm the damage?

You won't have to try and get back what you don't pay them....
Personally, I wouldn't pay a penny till they agree in writing to your claim, especially if they ignored your specific packing instructions, but charged you according to your specific instructions....
I'd also seek out another shipper in case you have to abandon your dealings with them in order to not be held ransom for charges they clearly are not entitled to. If you ship everything within the US, then just pick them up yourself and bring them back to Canada yourself, there are hundreds of companies that *can* ship for very cheap. I was really, really surprised when you specified how much you ended up paying to have these shipped, it appeared to me to be a LOT more than it should have been...You could have mailed them within the US for less...

Yep, they want me to pay in full, I disagreed. I paid them $1K, as I'd end up paying that anyways. I can deal with www.freightquote.com. I used them before, Pilot was a bit cheaper and had better service... so far.

I bet they do!! I would have put the money in an escrow account pending settlement, but with your low valuation I would try to get them to agree to release the salvage to you and waive shipping to close the file. If that hapens you will still have a fun time trying to value it for customs....
What a waste of lenses.

I have a truck and a trailer and I am very considerate of how others want their property packaged. Maybe I should start hauling cargo for the crt community!!! And by the way I do spend alot of time behind the wheel with my rig and I haven't lost any livestock yet(and that's the hardest load to haul)

Gee I dunno, I don't think a CRT that smells like cow manure is that tempting
