Hi guys,

Recently my 9500lc refused to work. Bascially when I press the power button, I can hear the projector coming to life but the HV crackle is missing. ANy idea what might be the problem? I tried reseating the HDM, Focus board and the DPB chip on the VIM.

Regards.

Also try reseating the LVPS and look for any error lights on the back(clm). Also pull the CLM and press down on the removable chips on the CLM and the daughter board(DPB). With no crakle it means the HVPS is not turning on.

Is it ceiling mounted or floor? If floor check for any Glycol leaks, it may have seeped down into the backplane and or motherboard.

Hello

You may have lost horizontal or vertical scan, and the diagnostic leds will not always light up for those.

There were glycol leaking but my projector is mounted on my ceiling so I do not think that the glycol has touched my boards. I jsut vented my tubes.

Hmm Tim, you might be right. The last time round. it was also my HDM board that gave me the problem.

Anyway could the problem be the neck boards?

Hello

First, look into each lens with a flashlite and make sure no tube face is cracked.

Neckboards are also a possibility. Unplug the 14 pin umbilicals for all three neckboards on the top motherboard and try power. If you get the high voltage crackle back then reconnect the umbilicals one at a time. The one you connect that loses HV again is your bad neckboard.

hi tim,

I've check the tube face. Everything is fine. I'm not too sure what you meant by the 14 pin umbilical cord on the top motherboard.

If you look where the neck boards are at the rear of the tube, you will find a black ribbon cable running out the bottom with a white connector which attaches to the motherboard lying flat beneath the tubes.

One time i forgot to connect the ribon cable on the back heat sink to mother board and it would turn of fans but no crakle, try that too. Also since it it ceiling mounted make sure the HDM is seated up tight, Make sure the foam on the HDM case cap is still putting pressure on the HDM board. Even if you reseat it it will slip out enough not to make contact by the time you hit the remote. Double check it, or hold it in while turning on PJ.

Just when I was losing all hope, I hit the jackpot...

I swapped the back panel with another one and it solved the problem. I think the problematic board is the vertical board because there was once when I saw the V. Fail LED light lit up...

I was almost on the verge of getting an Epson 1080UB.... Phew....

I just love CRT!

Good for you! I know how you feel, at times when I find myself troubleshooting a problem, I curse and think about digital, but you need to remember that they have their own share of technical issues too.

Tim did mention the VDM in his earlier posts Wink

Hi Gino,

Yeah I realised that i missed out that part that Tim mentioned.... anyway I've got a peculiar problem... My tubes will go off when a 720p/1080i (60Hz) signal is fed to it but will come back on if I feed it a 408i/480p/1080p (60hz). ANy idea what might be the issue?
