There is no such thing as a 'pixel' on a CRT pj.
The beam scans a line from left to right. Starts at the top with the first row of 'pixels' that the device want to send. I say pixels because the source device have divided that line into a number of 'positions' that each can have a different value. Each position is addressed as a pixel. Then you add more lines to form an entire picture.
Now that means that we can have an infinite horizontal resolution right?
Well in theory you can divide that line into very many pieces, it's all the same to the projector.
However the beam can only change it's brightness so fast and at a point it becomes sluggish and can't keep up. If fed an alternating black/white state fast enough it will only do dark gray to bright gray. It's called bandwidth. It simply can't go fast enough to reproduce the content wanted from it.
Also the beam does have a size to it starts overlapping itself both vertically and horizontally which also limits the ability to draw small detail.
There is a lot more to it like harmonic distortion but it's not really that important to a user to know about.

So to help you with your problem you might want to tell us what resolution you try to throw at it and what pattern.

Sides are cropped at some point. (source, scaler or projector)

Does Sonys have side blanking adjustments in menu? ->Try to adjust.

You aren't going to see clear pixels at 1080p on a G70. If you really want to see pixels (not sure why you would?), go to 1280x720p.

It's going to be a lot of work to get a G70 sharp at 1080p. Optical focus, scheimpflug (flapping), and EM all need to be highly optimized before you'll see anything close to pixels, and even then they won't be sharp, hard-edged pixels. That's bad if want to see sharp test patterns with pixels, but great for watching movies.
