@Curt and all others: Have you done a 100 hour burn-in on these from tubular outlet ?
I thought brand new Panasonics are coming with a 100 hour factory burn-in !?!
VDC ones have to be fired with 100 hours first, right ?
thx for an answer

No, that was done at the Barco factory in each and every projector they made. This is why a new Barco already has 100 hours on the counter

Doesn't a Barco have an option in the Service menu with the title "CRT burn in cycle"? It's been a long time since I have gone through the menus of my 909.

Yep that function is available.
The owners manual states that this function can be used when having a brand new tube installed.
Has anyone used this function in the past ?

The Barco run in function requires that you do a set up on an internal pattern, I don't
recall if there was a restriction - I believe I used the highest available. The scary
part is that it runs full blast for 5 seconds on, 5 seconds off.....!
Personally, the way I like to run-in new tubes is to use a max (tube face sized) raster,
defocussed, all white, low IRE pattern, preferably using orbiting. Starting at very
low contrast and running for several days, gradually increasing the contrast and IRE.
This has given good results, tubes get to gradually bake in and cure the phosphor layers.
Focus seems to gradually improve over the first few hundred hours of use. My Ultra
with LUG's is just incredible now with a little less than 400 hours on the tubes, and
the tubes still look perfectly new.

I don't think you need to on any new tubes. I've never done it anyways. Check the focus on the LUGs though. Iv'e had two now from Tubular that focused really poorly. Seems to be a bit of a thing with LUG tubes, I've read others having issues with non Tubular LUGs.
