I am in the process of setting up my G70 with the DVDO 50. Does anyone have suggestions as to the best line and scan rate for this? I have been using XVGA, but am not sure what is best as it take a long time to get it set up.

What are the sources?
I like 1080p 60, some like 1080p 48, some like 1080i 96
For DVD I would use 960p 72, HD either 1080p 60, or 1080i 96

XVGA is a PC desktop resolution of 1024 x 768, not a true video resolution. you want to run 1440 x 960 for a 4:3 screen or 1440 x 720 if your doing an anamorphic squeeze, perferably at 72Hz.

Don't run 1080P on the G70...it's pretty well maxed out at that rez, and if your setup is not 'perfect' your gonna experience drift and overstrain on your electrical components.
For HD or Blu-Ray try 1080i @ 72
It is enevitable that you'll need to setup a number of memory blocks for different rez...it's all good experience, and will make you comfortable with the process involved in getting tight registration.
If you copy memory blocks your not exactly setting up from scratch each time.

1080p looks better then 1080i on my G70.
(They do look very similar though... I've spent a lot of time looking at both.)
I can't always notice scan lines at 1080i but when I do the image suddenly looks like "video" instead of filmlike.
And,... at 1080p I still retain sharpness.
I bet it does take a toll on the circuits though.

1080i on my 8500 is distracting as hell and I agree with you, those big scan lines really kill the "film-like" feel of things. I run 720P with an anamorphic squeeze and I feel it's ideal for an 8" machine although some people have issues with this rez for some reason.
Isn't it nice that CRT guys can run any resolutino they want though.

I run 1080p/60 with DVDO VP-30 in my G70, but next month with the new MOOME card, 1080p/75 !!!! I am very happy with my picture!!!

Thanks for all the comments. I am going to save the current setting and try both the 720 and the 1080. I need to work on my "skills" at set-up, have you seen the set-up DVD Curt has and how it would apply tot he G70. I originally had a Faroudja scaler that was 600 lines, when it failed I got the DVDO. When I built the theater I had a "professional" set is up (only ting I did not do myself), but he is no longer available so I have done the current configuratin it myself and it is probably 90% optimal. While I am reasonably to very technically competent, the interactions in the settings seem to make it somewhat difficult to achieve a really great picture.
