MY FRIGGIN AMPRO IS DEAD, PLEASE HELP ME. WHAT SHOULD I DO? Laughing

Thank you so much for your kindness and understanding Cool

Well, for the most part my experiment was a success. There's nothing wrong with my tank. It's working better than ever. However, had I said my G-90, 909 or Marquee ultra was dead, I would receive well wishing support from all the CRT junkies but as it's only a AmPro, it's dump the lump and get a real projector Laughing

My heart is a flutter with all the support Mr. Green

Curt, is "a flutter" one word or two Wink

I've been a long term Ampro owner and I usually dont respond to these threads because I feel they are a waste of time. So I had some time to waste and here I am. Having repaired thousands of electronics, I dont see anything in a Ampro to believe they are any more troublesome then any other brand CRT projector. Poor solder joints are inherent in any brand which is the usual HVPS problems. Mosfets in the LVPS and Horz deflection can fail in any brand. If fact many parts (component level) are interchangeable and were made by the same manufacturer.

I believe that Ampro has received a poor reliability name because when Ampro closed, the market was flooded with machines because many corps felt they wouldnt be able to get service. Now being very affordable and sometimes close to nothing people started buying them because it was a higher end projector at a price they could afford. However all machines, working or not ended up with people who had no knowledge on how to fix them. And so the bad mouthing began and people scrambling with questions on how to fix them, themselves. Buying any product broken is a gamble. It doesnt mean that the product is no good, just that you dont have the knowledge or funds to fix it. I actually bought an Ampro one time that ended up, from what I guessed was used as a parts machine. Almost every board had a problem. But after some hours of time and about $2.00 to $3.00 per board in parts, it has been running ever since.

So if you feel a need to bash an Ampro, them by all means enjoy. But I probably wont respond because I'm busy enjoying mine.

Like Chip says. You guys are keeping the prices down so we can keep buying more for other rooms in the house. Laughing

I've had my first 4600HD with 9 rated tubes, factory mount, remote and manual for four or five years I think. I paid 2G's for it. In all that time it developed a cracked tube and a bad soldered joint on the focus board. I absolutly feel I run my PJ more than anyone here, so that ain't bad. I bought my second one with 9 rated tubes for $500.00 not working but just needing a couple of boards that I had in stock. I also bought what was supposed to be a DOA 3600HD with mount and remote for $200.00. That one showed up in perfect working order Thumbs Up
