Argh, I screwed up - no screen trigger output on BG808s?

So, I got this nifty Stewart screen, fixed it up (thanks guys!) hung it... and.... I go to plug the damned thing into the barco, and it turns out that the eighth inch jack on there is for a REMOTE, not for a screen trigger.

So I can't trigger my screen, apparently. I could jury rig it to +12, send it down, and pull the power, and leave it there, but I can't have it actually GO UP AND DOWN.

Any ideas? I'd really like to avoid having to make a little box with a battery, etc... Confused

Battery? I bet one of the Barco guys here can tell you where you can take a +12v from the 808 to use as a trigger.

If you don't want to fart around inside the Barco, just plug a small 12v wall-wart into one of your AVR's powered outlets. Receiver on - screen down. Receiver off - screen up. Done. Might be cool anyway, since you could turn the projector on only after the screen was down and vice-versa.

Good call; didn't think about the wall wart. *brain fade*

I'd be reasonably comfortable getting inside the barco as long as I don't have to cut traces or do soldering... I *could* but would rather not risk it. Splicing wires I'd be pretty confident with, if anyone has any ideas about where/how.

Close to getting things set up in the room... will update my HT thread in construction when I get a bit further!

The screen trigger circuit in mine looks pretty easy to build. It ties into the smps and has a small breadboard attached to the heatsink, has two wires running to the jack on the rear of the pj. It's very simple, only four or five components and some wiring. Curt or someone may have a schematic of it also.

Cool. Of course, the first thing I thought when I thought about a circuit is, "I could have a relay, feed the 110 to the screen on the same cable, and cut it off with a timer so i can set vertical screen position..." (My screen must have been used in a place with high ceilings, so it's pretty low to the floor)

No. Not right now. Smile

I tapped into the fans of my Barco to trigger stuff. No parts needed.

Now that sounds like the best idea yet.

Hi,
The BG808S fan voltage is variable, usually they start out around 7.4 volts
and will increase somewhat with temp. If you want to see the higher voltage,
just turn the machine off for about 10 minutes after its been running for a while.
When you restart the sensors will have heat-soaked and the fans will be at max.

Kal has basically the same projector I do, so I'm guessing that if it works for him it'll work for me. Probably you don't need *actual* +12 to trigger, or the screens would be going up and down every time there was a blip... Smile

Suggestion: A reed relay and wall wart will be able to handle all the screen-trigger sourcing current and actually deliver 12VDC to the screen, while drawing only a few milli-amps from the fan circuit AND be perfectly happy with the excursion of fan voltages.

Quite frankly from a automation point of view. The suggestion of a 12V "wall wart" plugged into a switched outlet in your AVR is a no brainer. If you have a master "ON" button for your theater the screen will be down before the projector boots up with a picture. But then what do I know...I own a AmPro... just a low life Laughing
