We've been having a problem recently with our Barco Data 708. We get a little green "squiggle" which occasionally runs right to left. (Imagine a very irregular erratic sine wave). Its worst when a bright horizontal item is being projected. It appears worst at top and bottom of the screen but also can occur in the middle of the screen. It is not diagonal. It appears on the internal grid too so I don't think its interference or bad cables.

The unit is about 8 years old -we just had all three guns replaced last fall, so they don't have much hours on them.

I've been through the Barco Troubleshooting guide and I can't find anything that matches our problem but this comes close:

This projector is heavily used in our planetarium and we are currently deep into the busy summer season, so I'm hoping someone can give us some direction and advice with this!

(Note we're using the composite input with no doubler or anything like that.)

I had the same problem and I think it was a combination of things, I have a Marquee tho so not sure if the Barco has a similar control board, but reseating the chips on the marquee helped a bit and the main thing was a ground loop hum, If i removed the Blu ray players HDMI cable the squiggly went away. So I added a ground from the chasis to the chasis of a power conditioner i use. This worked for a bit but it came back ,this time it was a corroded ground for my panel box, the ground wire to water pipe was heavily corroded and cleaning this up solved the problem. here is my thread on it.

Here what it looked like, not my problem but very similar.

Marquee 9500LC - "strange waves" - need help.

Thanks, but our problem sounds different than yours. Ours isn't a focus problem.

Its not a focus problem, its a squiggly wave going verticle up on all vertical line edges, its caused by the horizontal lines ocillating east to west of alternating scan lines, mine was caused by a ground loop problem and oxidized contacts on the control board. does it look like this?

Ah, sorry I misread your message...no our problem is different. With your example, I see regular vertical waves. Ours is irregular, erratic and horizontal - from right to left.

Someone gave me another suggestion that the gain on our green gun is turned up too high. And so when the gun in the CRT is whipping back to the left to start scanning the new line, its not blanked properly and thus the squiggle...

Now I have to figure out where the gain controls are to see if turning it down a bit helps...

Update: I found the G2 adjustment on the side of the 708. When the gain ont he green gun was turned up, the squiggles got worse. Turned down and they disappeared! So maybe that's it...we'll see how it goes over the next couple days...
