I just won an auction for a 1252Q. Maybe the seller is a member here! Anyway, I have a D50 as a beater projector for playing video games and watching HD DVDs and Blu-rays. The D50 is nice, though its ability to resolve leaves a little to be desired. It can accept high resolutions, but it's only actually resolving what, maybe 500p? Though it has a much higher RGB bandwidth than a 1252Q. A 12xx can resolve what, maybe 600p or better? Or maybe that's specifically the 127x series. Should I oust my D50 with the 1252Q? Does the 1252Q, with its 8" tubes, have a resolution edge over the D50, despite having almost half the RGB bandwidth? Or are they about equal? I'd probably feed it 720p or 1080i, just as I have been feeding the D50.

I have owned both D50 and 1252 projectors, I ended up getting rid of the D50 and keeping the 12XXX PJ. mind you the tubes in the D50 were tired and the 12XXX tubes were new. Using a HDFury I could play Blu-ray at 1080i or 720p, I managed to get the DD & DE boards from a 1271 which are an easy mod which then gave me extra zone adjustment and greater bandwidth. With G2 adjusted to near spot on 4v I achieved a really dynamic picture.

Cool! I just so happen to have a 1271Q with some issues relating to the blue color component, perhaps a tube issue, so maybe I'll try swapping those boards into the 1252Q. So those boards are pretty to swap in, eh?

Sounds much easier than replacing the red tube neckboard on my 1292Q where I accidentally bent a CRT tube pin and was sweating bullets carefully bending the pin back!

If you download the workshop manual for your 1252 from the manuals link you will see the location which is easy to get to, also while you are doing this you can access the points for doing G2 setup which is described in the advanced procedures link

The 12xx may have better capability, but the D50 is a LOT better looking. Very Happy
