Amazon seems to think it's time for people to dive into Blu-ray and offering your choice of players and a bundle of eight movies for $80!

The offer started yesterday and gives customer the choice of two qualifying Sony Blu-ray players, either the BDP-S300 ($379) or the Playstation 3 40GB ($399):

(Hint: Pick the PS3!)

After adding the preferred player to their carts, customers can then select the Blu-ray 8-pack Starter Set for $80. The set includes 'Black Hawk Down,' 'The Adventures of Baron Munchausen,' 'Dogma,' 'A Few Good Men,' 'Life of Brian,' 'Resident Evil: Apocalypse,' and 'The Fifth Element' coming out to a total savings of 65%.

Amazon says the offer is available for a "limited time," so who knows when it'll run out.

For the offer's complete details, click here.

Based on the selection of movies (have two of them, not interested in the others) this is a piss poor offering. Why not buy a PS3 from Sony for $399 and buy a handful of movies you really do want for $80?

What you should be saying is that it's a "piss poor offering for me". Everyone's different.

It's targeted at people who have no blu-ray player and no movies. It's a good deal for someone who has nothing and would like to have the majority of the movies listed. $10/movie is pretty good for Blu-ray! If you only like 1/3 to 1/2 the movies, buy all means buy different movies with the $80.
