I asked the guys in the cabinet shop across the alley from me about making a wilsonart screen for me. They said that with a 1/2" backing and the wilsonart laminate it would be about $180.00 for them to make it. No frame, and I'll make that and the brackets to mount it. So I got to thinking about how big I really wanted to go and I think I want to stay with 84" x 48". I'm kinda limited by the shape of my room, I can't go bigger than 100" x 56" due to the roofline. I will have to move a plumbing vent pipe to go bigger than 84" wide. The pj is a 1209s with tubes in the 8 and 9 range. What'cha think?

It really depends on you, your projector, and your preferences. If you've enjoyed that screen size, you like how it looks, it fits in your room nicely without moving the vent stack, and you're happy - then stick with it.
Personally, I sit really close because I really like the immersion. So, I sit about 12' away from my 96x54 - 1.2x screen width. How far away do you sit?

Hey, SC - 96/12=8', so 12' is 1.5x.

That varies, couches are about 18ft back and there is moveable seating in the 8-15 ft range.
I have a couple sheets of parkland bright white, maybe I'll try it first and see if it is big enough.
Here's a shot of the space I have, that's a 70 inch screen:

Looks like it might get a tad warm up there. Is the area ventilated/climate controlled?
Without knowing more it looks like you'll have to build your screen in place won't you? Do you have a way to get a 4x8 backer up there? (For WilsonArt) You could always go the tried and tru homemade frame with BOC painted with Behr UPW and a bit of pearlescent mixed in. <shrug> That's what I did and I'm happy with it...but then I'm not a purist either.
And yeah, That vent pipe stinks!

Oops. I was on the phone trying to talk and write at the same time. I'm actually right at 10', not 12'... so, about 1.25x. Small room, so moving a little bit makes a difference.

This is actually a 500 sqft loft above my garage and it does get hot up there. It's getting some extra vents and insulation in the ceiling soon. There is a very nice cooling effect that I have tapped by routing air from under the house up into the loft, making it pretty nice when it's not too hot outside. We will be hitting 90 today so at the projector I expect it to be 100 or higher. I have enough room to get a solid 5 x 10 sheet of MDF up the stairs so the screen will not be a problem

Hey bud, in the interest of getting bigger screens around the world, if you need help moving those pipes I'll do it if you buy lunch.

Thanks Ray, but I can handle it. It's only plastic, I just need to get some elbows and stuff to put a dogleg in it, maybe this weekend.
