All this says is that Sony has agreed to support CableCARD 2.0. CableCARD has so far pretty much been a flop. I don't see CableCARD 2.0 changing anything in the near future. The STB will not go away because I don't know any cable company that asks you "do you want a CableCARD or an STB?" None! You have to ask for a CableCARD (usually a few times), tell the installer, "no I don't want the STB you brought for me", wait for him to call the office...

Then, you get the fun of trying to make the CableCARD work! If you are lucky, you have fully working cable within 2 weeks of your original installation date!

Frankly, there is no motivation for the cable company to better support CableCARD. I believe it is this lack of support that has led to the failure of CableCARD, not that fact that it does not support VOD or the cable's channel guide!

About the only useful thing I see coming out of CableCARD 2.0 is that it makes the TiVo a first class citizen, and it almost makes an HTPC viable for the lunatic fringe.

Good, I can finally get rid of mine.

Oh wait... I haven't had one since about 1982,... How have I gotten by without one?

Now THAT sentiment I totally share with you. Evil or Very Mad

It SUCKS!! If it weren't for Tivo, I'd have shot myself by now.
