|
|
Ok I have a low hours Hd700 and while I was watching CSI tonight in 1081i from my DVDO the red tube went out.
Any idea what could cause this? Or more importantly how to fix it? I am not a tech guy, but i can troubleshoot.
I heard a noise that sounded like thunder (I think) right about when it went out.
At the time I thought it was the show, but now I am not sure.
I pulled the cover and all three of the back part of the tubes are glowing, but the red front of the tube is completely dark.
Thanks in advance for any and all help
Jay

Your red neck board (CRT socket) has died. DWIN is more or less gone now, but I can repair it for you.
THe thick red wire going to the focus block needs to be desoldered at the focus block, everything else unplugs.
Shoot me an email to curtpalme@shaw.ca and I can further assist.
Cheers!

Curt, I will shoot you an email today! Thanks for the info.
I saw the other thread about DWIN! What timing.
Two months ago I contacted them with a software question, and they emailed me back the same day.
Let me know if you end up getting any of their stock.
I have a few CRTs, and this Dwin is about the best made of them all.

I've heard diddley from them since I called and emailed them. I'm guessing they are still doing repairs, but with no return calls or emails, I'm guessing the writing is on the wall. I can repair it cheaper anyways..

F*#K,
I was able to pick up another HD700 locally for cheap ($150) It had a black case instead of my other white one which I like better. The tubes are about the same, so I pulled down the other Dwin and put this one up. After getting it 95% converged I watched a few Blu-Ray disks on it at 1080i and it looked great. But it was making a few crackles though like an old radio or tv.
Tonight as I was warming it up something arced inside and it shut down. the "on" light flickers and it seems dead. I unplugged it and plugged it back in (kinda stupid) and it started arcing again.
So now after dialing this in I seem to have dead unit. I assume it is the power supply? The arcing is definitely in the lower part of the case. How do I remove and test it? Any ideas?
Thanks guys!
Jay

I've owned four CRT projectors over the years. The Dwin 700 is by far the worst. It makes a constant crackling sound. The fan makes noise and the picture projects slightly left of center for some reason. I plan to junk mine and go for a DLP. I wish I had never bought it. I'm glad Dwin is out of business. They were a second rate company.

Well I can definitely attest that I have had more problems with it than any other Projector. I have a Sony in my theater and I have never had a problem with it (except wearing out the blue tube) however...
These DWINs are small and quiet (when they don't arc) and are great for my bedroom. I like the smaller case and it throws out a great 1080i picture for its size as a CRT. They are not without the reliability problems however. This was fine when they answered their phones, because I am in LA. Now it may be a much bigger problem.

Yeah Curt,
I am probably going to be hitting you up for some parts or at least repairs pretty quick here. Is it easy to pull the power supplies on these? Or do i have to pull the tubes to get to it? I think I will try to swap part between my two projectors first, then send you the bad power supply to fix. Does anyone have a service manual on these? I know DWIN kept them pretty tight.

Power supply comes right out the front of the unit, you can do it while the set is on the ceiling.
Nope, no schematics, but I've had good success repairing them. Worst case we replace the parts with working spares.
