Barco 1100 and 1600 are known for eating tubes yet these PJs are based on the 800 series which, as far as I can see, are not known for the same issue. So why do 9" tubes blow when 8" don't?

I'm pretty sure the problem is in the tube design.

The tubes are good, it's the PJ overdriving them that is the problem. The tubes are used in other PJ's without shorting out, Barco was trying to get way too much brightness out of them.

Ok. If they are driving them too hard then why don't the 800 series tubes fail the same way. As mentioned the PJ components are almost (if not) identical which would mean the 800 series tubes are driven just as hard even though they produce less light.
