This pic is from an NEC XG that I am looking at. There is obviously some burn in, but can I still get a good picture from it? Will I get a picture that beats my Sony D50?

I don't know guys... that greens' burn is clearly from two setups... one horribly undersized.

I did not see that there was a second setup in there, good catch. Seems like this PJ is not such a good idea.

Just for reference sake, you can "bring out" the raster usage pattern by editing a digital pic in a good photo editor and cranking the gamma back a bunch. I use Irfanview. (I won't say "burn" because some would debate the validity of the gamma 'trick.')

Looking at both the blue AND the green, I see at least three setups... the two 16:9 clearly visible on the green and a 4:3 clearly visible on the blue.
All in all, I'd say 'pass' unless this PJ were VERY cheap, being acquired explicitly for parts, etc.

Of course it depends on price, but wear like that on NEC's is common as dirt. You will almost always see that kind of wear on NEC tubes, but usually, if you set it up using "primarily" the already worn area, the image will look fine for *most* viewing material.
If you're watching "Fargo" over and over again, it will be a bit annoying, but as long as its colorful, or mostly NOT all white, I'd bet it will look fine.
Test it out with REAL video material and see if you mind what the burn does to the image, is the best thing to do...any XG will be much sharper than your D50, and XG's are REALLY REALLY bright, which is pretty much WHY the tubes are always burned...
Personally, I've noticed that D50's tend to burn their tubes pretty quick too...but aren't as bright as the XG's, nor as sharp, of course...but then again D50's take component direct...
Depends on price if its a decent deal or not...also, it should have a remote to be usable immediately...

If you're crazy, you can use an HTPC and 'knock out' the wear pattern by photographing the output from each tube, inverting it, and creating an inverse luminance map to overlay using ffdshow with avisynth. The wear looks light enough that the color shift between unworn and worn shouldn't be too big of a problem.
But you'd have to be crazy. I still wouldn't get it unless it's uber cheap; there are a lot of good deals out there now that weren't out there even a year ago.

There is a moone dvi card and RC 6321 setup remote in this sale. What value could be placed on these?

What value could be placed on these? | since it's the older Moome DVI card it's not worth as much but still desireable as a way of inputing HD direct into macine. That card and set-up remote will normally sell for $100. each and are always in demand. don't forget the HD144 lenses, also worth $150. a set . Oh and the system and wave boards are easy to sell for $100. each too.

I once had an XG, it was a real bugger to set up properly. I'd not recommend getting one unless you are prepared to work hard at getting a good display. If the set is already set up perfectly and there are no problems with it and its already set at D65k then fine but looking at the tube photograph and remembering the hassle I went through, I'd not touch it even if it were free!
If you do decide to go for it, DO NOT TOUCH ANY OF THE INTERNAL POTS! You'll trash the pj pq-wise. Ditto for doing a full Re-Initialistation. If either of these has already happened you'll never get a proper pq out of the thing unless you get an XG expert involved, its that complex to get it back to its proper settings.
There is a superb guide to setting up an XG and retubing it by JRobbo, here it is http://www.jrobbo.com/NEC/index.html - that will help if you decide to go for it.
