I have a Dish 5000 HD receiver that has rgbvh output

Anyone know if I could upgrade to a newer Dish box and be able to keep my rgbvh hookup I use to my projector?

If so, what model is best

Are you sure its a 5000 not a 6000? I have both a 5000 and 6000. The 5000 used a modulator do convert the DBS signal to a TS stream that could then be decoded by a PC-HD card or a HD-STB, to my knowledge it does not have an RGBHV output. The 6000 does have an RGBHV output.

Regarding the newer units anything newer then the 6000 did not have an RGBHV output. The first generation HD-Dish Recorder had RGBHV but it is long discontinued. A transcoder or HD-Fury/Moome may be your only option left for a newer receiver.

Mike

You're right it's a 6000. I found out I'm not getting all the HD programming I could be getting if I had a newer model. That's why I'm thinking of upgrading

All the new MPEG4 receivers only have component and HDMI outputs for HD. So as Mike said you will need either a transcoder or soemthing like HD-Fury/Moome.

Hey AC/DC. Is this the same sat receiver we discussed in an earlier post? If so then you had that hooked up from the DVI output with a DVI to RGBHV cable. Thus, the Dish 811 has DVI output so you should be able to hook up the same way. I'm not sure if the newest Dish HD receiver has DVI output or not. Might be worth it to check that out.

I see the 811 wont do MPEG4 so that's probably not what your looking for. Oh, well.

Yea, your probably right. I was thinking about this and I have a suggestion that I have no idea if it will work or not. I would have to read more to verify. If I remember right you have a sony switcher or something. Now the new MPEG4 sat boxes have component output also. Does the component connetion output all the HD resolutions? If so then you could probably configure 1 of your IFB cards in the switcher for component input. I would have to investigate more unless someone else knows about the component output.
