|
|
Hello all,
Since about a year I am the owner of a BG808. After struggling with drift for a while due to bad mechanical setup , I am now quite satisfied with its performance. And I can't bear looking at staircases on plasmas and LCDs anymore...
I use 1440x864@50 Hz for SD and 1920x1080@72i for HD (both using a HDFury on port 3). The latter is pretty soft: I am just able to discern the lines at resolution.
I may have the opportunity to buy a 1208/2 with toasted tubes. Would it be worth the effort to transfer my own tubes to this chassis? Or should I just wait until the prices on those 9"-er really start to drop ?
Thanks for your suggestions,
Gerbrand

It is a small but not significant upgrade. If it were a 1208s/2 with good tubes, then I'd do it. Otherwise, no. If 1080i/72 is soft, you may need to do a better mechanical set up or perhaps you are using the Fury to drive too long a cable?

I still need to do mechanical beam focus and astigmatism, but I am currently waiting for the materials to mount it to the ceiling. I reckon this will change the mechanical set-up a bit.
The Fury is driving the VGA to port 3 cable that came with it, so that should not be a problem.
Thanks,
Gerbrand

Have you upgraded the caps on your port 3 board? If not, you might consider that.

No I haven't. All is still original in my set AFAIK. Do you have a pointer to a procedure that describes this upgrade?
Thanks,
Gerbrand
