Anyone know how to do this? I can insert a Compact Flash (CF) card and it has no problems recognizing the JPEG images. I was think of placing a mixture of photos, videos, and music on a thumb drive I have (4GB), but this morning's experiment failed. So, what am I missing?

How did you experiment fail? You know you have to either put the photos, videos and music in specifically named folders, or they won't appear without "browsing" the media (and showing all files), right?

Yeah,
You have to name the folders correctly or choose (Show All) from the menus.
Music
Video
Picture
PS3 > Theme (for themes)
PS3 > Update (for system updates)
PS3 >Export (PS3 puts backups in here.)

I think the PS3 will also make the folders for you if you copy that media type to the device and the folder doesn't already exist.

Actually, you do NOT have to make folders. 
Just hovering over the USB Flash Device and using the Triangle button for options to Show All reveals the contents of the device. Why this works and not simply navigating 'to the right' is silly. But, I was able to view images, play music, and watch videos without a problem.
I was surprised that RM and MOV were not supported. Does Sony and Apple hate one-another?

We know! That's why Brian and I both said as much. I just offered up the folders in case you wanted the card organized and/or the files to show up without doing the triangle thing.

I'm not surprised at all. I think it's a case of Sony having to pay Apple to license QT. In fact, I don't know if any CE hardware manufacturers have ever licensed QT for MOV-only playback. It would be very, very cool if the PS3 had QuickTime support, though as it would open things up for the kinds of media and files you could play - especially if you use Macs.
As for Real, I assume it's also a licensing issue. Well, that and who the hell uses Real anymore, anyway?
