I have made a few Setup patterns that might be useful.
I have yet to test them on a CRT but in theory they should work.

As of now there is only convergence patterns.
Please test how well they work compared to the usual 'on top' type patterns.

They are all 1920*1080 and are labeled with the color they are.
They are all full brightness so be careful to avoid burn in.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Added a Phosphor grain pattern to simplify mechanical focus. It has an inverted # to make it easier to find the correct range to start with. (RGB)
I also added a bandwidth pattern with full and half res. (RGBW)

I updated Package 2 with the correct patterns, sorry for the mixup.

Added ringing and low level bandwidth tests.

Added brightness and contrast patterns.
Also a numbered step pattern to see if anything is getting crushed.

Nice stuff!

Why the patterns where the dots or lines are offset? Ie: There are some that are little squares of one colour with a single pixel dot inside but slightly offset.

It might make for more accurate converging if you aim to get a dot centered inside a box instead if something centered ontop of another thing and then trying to detect a slight tint telling if it is centered or not.
It's a test though and I don't know if it has any advantage at all.

Nice work David, I really like the convergence patterns! Makes a lot of sense to me... I'll be using these for sure.

Thanks. Added a few more patterns.
Any other pattern you would like to see?

Here is also one, i dont know heck about how to make diy patterns so i asked at one friend to make this one for magnetic/astig. setup. Thanks to him. (TNR)
That circle in center helps little with 2/4 pole setup.

Updated the second package with correct patterns.

Do you mean like the test pattern app found in the HTPC forum?
The patterns (or at least similar) to what MP has used is included in the second pack and are now fixed to look look like they should.

If someone has time they should look into putting these into an ISO in Blu-ray and HD DVD format that people can burn onto a standard DVD and play back. This is what http://avshd709.com/ does for their free test disc and it works well. 99% of us don't use HTPC's anymore. Smile

I wonder if bluray and hddvd supports png or other lossless format as a background picture so you don't have to make a clip of every pattern. Should save a lot of space. DVD RW should make for easy updates.
Are their any free tools to make a disk like that? I don't have a player to test it though.

I might do some black crush test patterns.
Falloff and ringing might be possible as well. Not sure how to get correct values though.

Maybe these two site's will help:

And if you have a mac

Be careful not to blow anything up, even if you feed it at 480i just the feeling of a 1080p pattern may emotionally overcome the 1020 and cause it to self destruct Mr. Green

Awesome, thanks for the bandwidth ones...

Can you explain to me why the phosphor grain patterns need grids? I've always done phosphor grain focusing using full field and then electronic defocussing.

I thought it would be easier to get coarse focus when you have something to aim for, like getting the lines as small as possible. I haven't tested but I can imagine that the grain can be a little hard to see and especially hard to see if you turn the wrong way. Might also be easier to get corner focus somewhat right.
As I said it's just theory and I don't have the CRT setup yet so I can test it, have to bleed the tubes first.

Any other patterns you could think of that might be useful?

wait, why, seriously????? Embarassed

or are you just joking? I was planning to crop it to 640x480 and then run it through via the sony camera... but i don't want it to die.....

Added ringing patterns to see if anything is oscillating. 1, 2, 3 and for pixel wide on/off with 50% gray to see the ringing.

Also added low level bandwidth test to see if the projector is able to resolve small differences.
1:1 with varying level of amplitude in 4 levels around midpoint.

Any more versions you would like to see?
