I was just at Best Buy and I noticed they had the LG combo drive that burns bluray as well as reads it. It's $349 CDN and you can still read the HD-DVD disk's. Conversion time anyone?

Not too shabby. I'm curious about the HD DVD feature. Can Sony just build that technology into their products now with a 'to the victor go the spoils' way or would they have to license it from the HD DVD consortium if it still exists? (or Toshiba?) Did I miss the news that Toshiba sold out to Sony? Shocked

I have this drive. Although a bit slow, it works great and burns BD discs as well.

I also have this drive, have yet to try burning BD, but DVD burning is slow compared to my much older DVD burner, and it turns out the odd coaster, where the other drive is more solid.

It seems to take an age to read some BDs, mostly rental ones, they don't seem to be heavily scratched, or marked in any way. Maybe a firmware update will fix that, but I am nervous to install it, because the last drive was bricked by a firmware update.

I'm not sure I'd trust it burning BD, as with the cost of the blanks, coasters will be expensive.

For the cost 36ukp ($75 approx), I guess you can't complain.

Best Buy will match the price. They may even beat it by 10%. I can never keep track of who matches/beats prices.

That is funny, they don't list HD DVD as a supported format. But it does call it a super multi drive.

I didn't realize the BD players were getting so cheap.

A Pioneer for $169

And the LG version with BD writing capability for $150

The LG GGC-H20L can read Blu-Ray, but it can't write BD.

The LG GGW-H20L is the BD Burner. It's $249...
