Hi ,
I can use both these resolutions at 72hz on my 800 via a lumagen HDP then to an HD Fury but was wondering which would be the best to use?1080i looks sharper to my eyes but would a progressive image like 720p be the all round better choice?I also have my Toshiba HD Dvd HD XE1/Panasonic DMP-BD30 both outputting 1080i is this the best resolution or would 720p output be better?I tried outputting 1080p60/24 into the the lumagen but got no picture from the BD30 The 800 can't do 1080p only 1080i or 720p so i'm just trying to get the best from it
Many thanks
Brian

Kal | Not for HD DVD and BD as they don't output 50hz for HD discs

1080i would be better with HD discs, since 720p need to be scaled down. That soften fine details little.
1080i have also lower BW that makes image sharper.
Use 1080i, if you don't find interlacing fluttering annoying.
It's annoying with still picture, but video looks fine to me.

Yep, that was what I meant. You can also test 1080i 96Hz, to see if you like it better than 72Hz.
Even you don't use HDP for scaling or deinterlacing with 1080i, it's still needed for chancing 24Hz to 72Hz and porch setting tweaking. Many times porches from hd players aren't best for your crt projector without tweaking.

Kal | Yep, all our HD discs are 24Hz/60Hz like yours, same thing with French Canal releases. All our tv's that can show HD resolutions can also take least 60Hz (lcd, plasma). All those 50Hz only crt tv's are 576i only.
For some reason those few satellite HD channels use 50Hz.

Interesting. I learn something new every day... I suppose at higher resolutions there's no reason to stick to the old 50Hz standard... Thanks!
