A fellow CRT user suggested painting the aluminium lens mounts with flat black paint to reduce light reflection within the lens. Has anyone else out there heard of this suggestion.

I have done it to both my 12xx machines. I can't say it made any difference. I'm sure it didnt hurt anything. I used krylon ultra flat black on those and the inside and outside of the cover. I painted the main cover only and left the middle panel and front the original color and it looks pretty good.

I have done this on my main 1272(of course AC unlike the LC G70). It helped noticeably, but really only with white objects against a black background(movie credits, mouse pointer against black screen, etc.). During movies it really made no difference.
I'll be surprised if it does anything more than make the lens mounts in the g70 look nice.

I did the same thing. And yes Barry...they are purdy. I did some chamfering (sp?) around the edges before painting....got me a purdy good 'paper cut'. Now they're nice and smooth.
They look AWESOME on the table outside the HT. ROTFLMAO! I swear...if the frigging power doesn't go out for a couple days so I can't play games or watch movies I may NEVER get those (and the 145's) installed.
