Yup, there are no fees. But this means you're buying from Sony, giving them more business. I'm going to keep watching Craigslist. There have been several $300 PS3's lately. I just need to catch one.

The last thing I need is another credit card, and I generally refuse to participate in offers like that because of that. (I have great credit, I just hate dealing with additional cards, and closing them later..) But this is a good deal and is seriously tempting me. Dang it!! $100 is on the cusp of feeling "worth it" for the hassle of calling them and closing the account later.

Many folks are not crazy about Sony because they are, in politically correct terms, "ethically challenged." Google some of sony's stunts like root kit and what they did with blu-ray, and you'll start to see why not many sane people think Sony being at the helm of anything consumer related is a good idea.

The Sony that engineered the G90 is really a different company then the Sony of today. Back then they were an electronics company. Now they are a media giant.

I do question the engineering slightly using the Dallas chip with a 10 year battery life in a piece of gear costing $40K.

Don't forget that the G90 (like all of the later CRT projectors) was designed, marketed and sold by Sony Broadcast - not the CE division. Unlike all the Sony projectors that people are buying for HT now, which ARE from the CE division. Well, unless you have 100k burning a hole in your pocket and want to light up a 20' screen in your 30-seat HT. In that case, you do go to the broadcast division and you pick up one of those bad boy 4k SRX-Sxxx machines. Whoah. Too bad the bulbs in those things are horrendously expensive, or these would be neat machines to pick up on the surplus market in 5 years. I digress...

I for one, am really annoyed that Sony got into the content business. I don't like the clear conflict of interest that surfaces - especially when it comes to giving two shits about consumer interests. Sony Broadcast makes acquisition equipment that content creators use to shoot productions (Cinealta, HDCam, XDCam, etc.), they make editing and production equipment, they own a bunch of studios that fund and/or produce many of the movies we watch, they now have a major stake in the next big distribution format (Blu), and they have a large piece of the pie in the CE industry in the hardware they sell to watch the stuff they create. Talk about a hegemony!!!

To make a comparison to the auto industry, it would be like if Ford Motor Co also owned its parts manufacturers, an oil company and fuel distribution company (gas stations), toll roads, etc. You'd buy your Ford car, then put Ford gas in it at the Ford Station, drive on the Ford Toll Roads, and you'd get your auto insurance from Ford Mutual. Oh, and you'd listen to Ford FM on your radio.

Accckkkk...

Yes but to a lessor degree. M$ is not that big a player in hardware and internet delivery. They have failed in many of those many endeavors, it doesn't even look like they will be successful at the yahoo purchase.

Lets say they buy Dell, Google, ATT or Comcast then we would have a problem! That's where Sony is now.
