I bought a 4100 recently for parts for next to nothing. It did not come with a remote. It also showed evidence of being dropped so I did not try to power it up. Tubes are excellent! So I thought I 'd check what other components will transfer. I brought all the boards over (except the motherboard )including the yokes and it looks great. However, when I use the remote is still says ECP3000. So my question is: is the data stored in the Dallas chip, the motherboard, or remote? What will make it say it is now a 4100? or perhaps these components were from another 3000?

Anybody? I've been searching this and the other AV forum for years and have not found a definitive (or any) answer. Surely someone out there has an answer for me! Do I really have a 4100 now or did I get ripped off? The picture does look better but it won't hold sync at 1280 x 1024 but for 2 seconds.

That info is stored on a chip on the upper motherboard on a Marquee, likely in a similar spot on the ECP ?

Why bother changing it ? It doesn't make it function any differently to have the numbers changed ....

Hello

A 4100 should scan 75khz and uses two stage yokes to do it; how many wires are in your H Yoke bundles?

The video control module generated the onscreen text, it may be a prom on there for model number and is not likely switchable.

Thanks Tim,

It is the two stage yokes I am certain. They are much different then the original ones with a circuit board attachedto the bottom. Sounds like the video control module I pulled from the 4100 was not the original.

Hello

You may also want to check the sync/deflection board, you should be able to lock that signal unless autolock is down; try manual H sync.

It looks like the info is on the remote control module. Could be on IC24, IC25, IC26 or IC29. IC 29 being your Dallas chip. IC24,25 and 26 are 32 pin PLCC style. IC24 maybe optional. If you have the tool to pull the PLCC IC's you can try swapping them. If I was to guess, that info might be on IC25, according to the service manual, but thats only a guess.

Guys and Curt,

Thanks so much for your answers. It appears though, if you are right, the cards from the 4100 were not the original ones. Thats OK because the tubes were definatley an upgrade and the cards were at least three years newer. The yokes are definately an upgrade as well. I am happy with the picture and once the projector warmed up it held 1280 x 1024!

One of the things I love to demonstrate to people is running 3d applications like MS Flight Simulator and use 3D Shutter glasses. People are amazed. It does require high frequency to minimize flicker but the effect is worth it. Next project is getting it to the ceiling.
