Hi Nathan,
I think you have it.....the 1101 will not go over 1080P@60Hz, and the PS3 version
of 1080P is not quite compatible, and a scaler (just a very fast dedicated video processor)
can rework the signal to fit the 1101's needs.
The question about the scaler is whether you can find one that would accept 1080P@60Hz?
And I have no knowledge whether the PS3 would output 24Hz. So that gets complicated - sorry!
There are several that will accept 1080i, and most of these have both analog and digital I/O.
Staying digital up to the HDFury will decrease the number of times the signal has to be
converted from analog to digital and back again, since the scaler works in the digital domain.
One easy thing you could try is to set your PS3 to output 1080i or 720P, you would need
some setup work, but at least might see the entire picture.
There are probably more knowledgeable people that would see this if you posted in the
CRT forum, I know that Gino is also a gamer and also uses a scaler (or three...) and may
have some good ideas and more current knowledge about what's possible.
As I mentioned, it is possible to upgrade the PJ, but not inexpensive and parts may be
difficult to find, and some technical help very likely required to do the install and setup.
Other than that a different player or an HTPC may be viable options.
If I was in your situation I would most probably look into the HTPC.

Well, the runco doesn't like 24Hz. I think you posted recently about most PJs not like that low a scan.
I also think if what zGman says is true, that the Runco 1101 is based of the Data model, that the site ought to be updated. I bought this PJ on the assumption it was the Graphics model, which doesn't seem to be true.

Correct. *NO* analog display (CRT projector, CRT computer monitor, etc) can use 24Hz. It would flicker like crazy and drive you nuts. It's not because they couldn't technically be made to sync to 24Hz, it's because they were designed to not do that because nobody would want that because of the insane flicker. Do a search on 1080p/24 for the thread or so one of latest newsletters (it's one of the last 3).

If someone has confirmation on information being incorrect on the site they can email me at webmaster@curtpalme.com and I'll update. I don't want to make changes based on guesses.

I'll try that as soon as I can get into the menus. I am having another issue where it won't respond to commands from the remote or the built-in controller. I had to flip the power-up mode DIP to get it to start up in operational mode because I can't get it out of standby mode. I ought to start another thread about that since Curt is probably enjoying his weekend as he should and hasn't written me back about that one.
So for now I can use it but not make any changes at all or use the menus. More fun.
However, I have been trying to get it to accept a 1080P/60Hz signal from my HTPC and it doesn't like it. I am pretty sure the HDFury should handle that, but something doesn't like it. I just get a black screen until it times-out. I got it to take something between 720p and 1080p, but I haven't yet figure out where it cuts off. That's odd, because it takes the 1080P signal from the PS3 ok, it just doesn't scan right.

Hi Kal,
I have personally verified the Runco 1101 does not have the auxillary scan
switching, relay, and width coil board in the tube bay, and have also tested the
input of signals over 1080P@60Hz, It just shuts down the video = No output!
Works beautifully at 1080P 60 though!

Hi Galen... sorry - I'm not sure what this means then - what model Barco is the Runco1101 based on then?

Hi,
Although there is not a listing for a Data 1209S on Barco's website, I have seen
reference to it on a Videogon ad some time ago, also Andy Halliday (MadMrH),
has discussed upgrading several Data1209S to Graphics specs, not too long ago.
Everything is the same except for scan rate capability. Personally I believe that
Runco limited the scanrate in firmware also, since it seemed to hit a wall and
blanked video, rather than display an error message.
Cheers,
Galen

I'm trying to make heads or tails here. Are you saying you are using the HD Fury between the HTPC and the PJ? I have found that in a couple of tries with 1080P and the Fury, that it would only work IF you use the external power supply.
1080I would be fine.
