Is there an easy way to change the refresh rate? maybe an external osc or something like that.
My denon dvd 1930 only spits out 50hz and i would like to change it to 60 or 72hz.
My blue ray player spits out 60hz and it looks much better on the pg9 than 50hz.
Both players are running 720p

You will need a scaler video processor. Beyond that I can't advise, I only use a HTPC
|

I have been looking at processors.I dont want to loose picture quility so i gess i need to spend a lot of $
I might see if denon have a softwear that wii change it to 60hz.May be changing it to us softwear.
But then i would need it multizoned.
I might have a look at the momitsu dvd player i have that is faulty.It may be the best way out.

Your Denon is "only" spitting out 50Hz because you're playing PAL DVD's and that is their refresh rate. If you run it through a scaler to get 60Hz or 72Hz you're going to get motion artifacts and juddering as the source material and the display will be mismatched.
For your 50Hz material you want to run it at 75Hz.

I had a play last night with 1080p at 50 with the pg9.The picture is not to bad,maybe a tad softer but very hard to
tell.
1080i at 50 gives yellow blobs on whites and the pg9 does not like 720p at 50 as i need to wind the width right out.
720p at 60 coming out of the sharp bluray looks fantastic and the width is not a problem at 60hz.
I will try a few different disc at 1080p and see how it goes.

You are aware that a CRT is not like a digital. Every resolution/refresh rate combo you put into it will access a different memory block of settings. Every single different resolution/refresh needs to be calibrated. The 1080i/50 problem you had is likely because the settings need to be tweaked with.
Depending upon what your source and display resolution are, a scaler may introduce no loss of picture quality.

The yellowish parts of the screen is coming from the very slight wear on the blue tube.Its worse on one side
than the other.1080i at 50 makes this stand out.At 720p/60 its still there but you need to look for it.
I tried a few dvds at 1080p/50 and the picture is to soft.I think i need a vp30 or a new blue tube.
I could stop being to picky but wheres the fun it that.

I don't get this. Both 1080i/50 and 720p/60 should be the same width on the tube face, both using the same worn section of the tube.

1080p is always going to be soft on a PG. That is quite a bit beyond what that is capable of displaying well. 1080i/72 would be a good choice for films on that PJ.

picture.The higher the horzontal frequency the less you see the yellow.1080i/50 runs 28.14khz and 720p/60 runs
45khz

The problem with the discoloring has to do with the phosphor on the tube being worn, not the horizontal frequency. I'm not even sure how that could effect it at all. Now, vertical frequency could effect it if you have not calibrated them the same as the time between more electrons hitting the phosphor would vary, thus the peak level of white could very if not properly calibrated.

Had a bit more of a play.I disconected the 3 way DVI switch and conected each unit one at a time and checked the
picture. No more yellow parts on the screen.The DVI switch is faulty,it must be leaky across the inputs.I will get
a good HDMI switch.
