Yeah, it's definitely from this site as the order of the documents is identical.

But is there really anything wrong with this? All of the stuff is stuff I scammed from somewhere else and I'm not even sure if legally you can sell it.

The only thing he did wrong as to use up about 4 Gb of my bandwidth (that we pay for) to download the items and it's maybe not a very nice thing to do in that he doesn't even seem to re-organize the info in any way (from what I can tell).

It took me years to pull together all that day. It took him hours to download it all. Oh well!

Kal

Thats what I'm talking about. All the time and effort involved in making them available for other people here to use and someone else is useing that to profit from. He surely didn't do extensive searching to find each item on there.

There wouldn't be an issue if it was another site, making them available for free also. Its the trying to profit from someone else hard work.

Very nice. One suggestion is to edit your heading to include the words projectors, firmware and software so if someone uses these words in a search, both of the auctions will come up. Without the word projector, if someone searchs "projector manual" , his auction will come up and not yours. Very Happy

Yup. You'd need to do this.

His auction title is: "manuals, firmware & software for all projectors"

Yours should be: "manuals, firmware & software for all projectors - ALL FREE!"

I would also cut and paste his entire description and use it as your own, just changing the first paragraph slightly to make sure to indicate that it's all FREE.

Hey, his name is Paul, not Hajjii. I spoke with him myself when I called Dell tech support..Very Happy

Yeah I talk with India all day long for Sprint Customer Care. Yesterday I actually had a new one instead of the Bob's, Pauls, Richards, etc, I got a SAM! Now THAT is closer to what his real name is...it's about 22 letters short of his real name but it was refreshing! (SAMalindangbodeshinni) Mr. Green

Curt's site does not Have service Manuals so it does not interfere with his service business .

Curt does offer service manuals, but only for older projectors - exactly what this guy is offering. This guy has obviously taken every single manual we have here and put them on a CD. Even the section names and document names are identical (straight cut and paste) and text like:

Note: The Esprit 300/500 are the same as the Ampro 1500/2000, except that they have analog convergence (ie: manual pots to turn instead of menu driven via remote).

It's all from our site.

Kal

I know Kal.
Last night I linked to the ebay ad and for some reason one of the first things I saw was a service manual ,So I ASSUMED he had GOOD service manuals available. I posted later acknowledging it was pretty apparent he copied your copied list Smile

I DO agree with Curt not having service manuals posted up here to protect his business . I have service manuals from all the big projectors 909, G90, 9500, 8500, G70 etc But I don't post them here so I respect Curt's decision.

My point is that it was and is not Curt's property .

It took a lot of years of research and experience for all the guys who wrote those procedures Like GUY Kuo.. BBlue, Curt Etc .
You just downloaded them Kal.... same as this GUY Smile

PS
Just playing devils advocate here, I agree with the donation asking, and membership fees.

PSS
I also agree with Kal stealing manuals from manufacturers who wrote them and sell them to make a living and post them here for free.

Agreed. I don't seem him really doing anything wrong, it just isn't very nice how he approached it. This is why in my first post I wrote:

At the very least he should give credit/reference to where the information is from. That's exactly what I've done with all the procedures from Guy Kuo, Mike Parker, etc. I've also actually ASKED those people first if I could use their information, and give them full credit (often with links for their own benefit). Some examples:

Written by Guy Kuo, Ovation Multimedia, Inc. - Home of: Avia PRO, AVIA Guide to Home Theater DVD, Sound & Vision's Home Theater Tune-up DVD

The following procedure and pictures were graciously provided by Bjørn Hegelstad of Norway. His web site can be found at: http://www.crtht.com. Bjørn offers home theater installations, CRT sales, CRT modifications, and gray scale calibrations.

The following procedure and pictures were provided by forum member JohnHWman. Thanks John!

The following procedure was originally written by CRTEAMAN (James) and has been expanded on by Kal (the webmaster). Questions or comments should be posted to the forum in this thread.

This compilation of information was compiled by forum member Joust (Barry) with permission from the original author, Mike Parker. Thanks for putting this together Barry!

The following Electrohome Marquee teardown procedure was graciously provided by forum member CZ Eddie. Thanks Eddie!

But in the case of this guy, he just downloaded it all, stuck it on a CD and sells it, with zero credit for the work that had been done before him. It's just not a nice thing to do.

Kal

I don't think he's either. Look at some of the other things (scams) he sells like this one:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GET-PAID-TO-EAT-SHOP-EVEN-JUST-ENQUIRE_W0QQitemZ130204800186QQihZ003QQcategoryZ109196QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Quote:
THIS AUTION IS FOR A WEBSITE ADDRESS WHICH ENROLES YOU TO GO TO SHOPS AND EITHER BUY SOMTHING OR EVEN JUST ENQUIRE ABOUT A PRODUCT AND THEN WHEN YOU GET HOME TO FILL IN A SMALL FORM AND THEN YOU WILL GET PAID FOR IT. THEY EVEN PAY FOR THE ITEM ie: McDonalds, KFC, Post Office, Petrol, AND MAY MANY MORE . YOU CAN SELECT A DATE & TIME WHICH SUITS YOU.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS WEBSITE IS FREE AND YOU PAY NOTHING TO JOIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All you have to do for McDonald’s is

Go in and order an extra value meal which will cost £3.59 (approx)
Sit down and eat it
Do a 5 min questionnaire on line when you get home to say what you thought of the service and what you thought of the meal.
You can do the drive though if you want or go in and eat your meal
It’s up to you
That's it then you will get the money for the meal back plus anything from £1 to £16 for doing the survay.

Just someone looking at different ways of profiting with scams.

Kal

I think macgyver655's should buck up for all the free manuals he's reading here Smile Unless macgyver655's you have made a donation instead of buying a membership!! which INCIDENTLY pays for those manuals Kal stole Smile (Teasing Kal)

OUCH !!. Let me take that spear out of my chest. First of all I'm not on this site to get anything. I post on here to help others. Read my posts. I have probably all the service manuals on here in print and probably hundreds more for other equipment which you will also see in some of my posts I have emailed or actually mailed to other people on here for FREE. I've been in electronic repair for many years and came on here just to help others. I also recently volunteered my time to Curt to try to find the problem with the NEC PG system boards and he is sending me one to try. If you still do think I'm trying to donate enough, well I guess it's a matter of opinion. I could leave this site at any time and not loose anything except the good conversation that is definitely here.

Hey if I personally offended you I am sorry .
I would never expect someone has to donate or try put someone on the spot to donate or sign up for a membership but it looks like that is how it came across so I will remove it .

Hey Guys,

Why don't we bid on the auction as a way to make a donation to the site and thank Curt and Kal for all the hard work they have put into this site.

I'm assuming you mean Curt's auction and not the one from the other guy selling the CD with manuals on it. Wink

Go for it! It'll save me the 5 cents I've bid so far (and I'm not saying what my max bid was...) Smile

So I wrote the guy this message via eBay and got a reply, thought you guys would be interested:

Quote:
Hi! I'm Kal, the webmaster of curtpalme.com. You know the site as you downloaded your manuals and documents from us. It took me 2+ years to find and compile these manuals. It would highly suggest that you at least list curtpalme.com as the source of the documents. Kal, webmaster: curtpalme.com

He wrote back:
Quote:
i don't get all my docs from your website but sure i will do from the next listing and i will also recommend your site to all that enquire about the manuals. is that ok? - d500cats

To which I replied:
Quote:
Dear d500cats,

Maybe not all your docs, but for this auction every single one of the docs is from curtpalme.com. The order of the docs and text is an identical copy to what I have on the site, letter for letter. Some of the docs were also scanned by me and not available elsewhere so you have to have gotten them from us. Use them as you like in your auctions, but you should mention something like "The following documents may also be downloaded free of charge from www.curtpalme.com ". Thanks, Kal (webmaster: curtpalme.com)

Seems like a reasonable guy. Maybe some free advertising...

Kal
