Maybe you need a null modem cable instead of a regular one. That has been the case when I have flashed chips.

thanks

No connection at all.

Have you checked with Craig on this? I'm not anywhere near enough of an expert on the G90 to be able to definitively help you here,
but I BELIEVE---and I could be wrong---that internal menu settings affect the mode of operation of the serial port. Set it wrong and the port is not active and you can't control the projector over serial or even communicate with it.

I have a copy of the installer's manual on CD. I'll dig it out and see what I can find in it that might help you.

Sure you can but where is the fun Mr. Green

I guess now you have loads of fun... Laughing

The real fun starts when you try to replace the depleted battery inside the DALLAS chip, like here. Of course this is a different chip but you can guess the basic idea is the same.

It'd be nice to find a compatible and truly non-volatile memory chip to replace that Dallas chip. But I'm not sure such a thing exists.

So here's a dumb question - why did Sony put this chip in the G90 and not the G70? And better yet, why didn't the G90 just have the non-volatile chip like the G70's do? Were they just expecting us not to continue to use them into the future?

I second what Chris says. Treat it like a computer and go into the Service Mode menus and see if there's anything that you can change pertaining to the serial port.

What for? If you put a new Dallas chip in you are good to go for the next 10-15 years, then changing -again- the Dallas chip will be the least concern Wink

Before you do that, error 11 is a memory loss error. Try putting the old chip back in.

Heck, I'll even help you out here by sending one of my chips to Craig and having him copy it to a new chip and send the new chip
to you. The result is there will be two G90s that have the same serial number in their brain, but who cares?

No sense in parting out the units when all they need is good firmware.

Might init with S202 bring something ?

You have two G90s? You could transfer the memory chip from the good one to the other and see what happens.

A memory chip that has a truly exhausted battery will have no data in it.

Yep i have two.

1st one with error 11, 2nd one with error 60.

Both with replaced Dallas chips but still the same errors.

I even swapped the YA board from one to the other and the error code moves.

That means one YA has a firmware issue (my opinion) and the other maybe a bad IC421.

Here error 60 is discussed, since in your case it follows the YA board it could be a short on the board, or have a bent leg as mentioned.

IC421 problems don't throw error codes. Instead, they show up as some sort of instability in the operation of the projector.

IC421 functions as the controller for the DACs that control every adjustable picture parameter. So, depending on the specific failure of IC421, you may have such problems as a refusal to focus but only on one specific channel and one specific zone. Or you can't adjust a specific convergence zone on one tube. Or the size is wrong, or a geometery problem.

I've read those threads thanks guys.

Where are those power supplies located just to be sure they are not dead on the one with error 60 ?!
