Thank you for the explanation Jorge and the diagram.

I will continue collecting parts and moving forward as you have.

Nash,

The value is identical to what a BR909 has in this place (not too critical, 1mH will do too). And it works well in both PJs. At least my picure is extremely stable and shows no vertical jitter whatsoever. The current shouldn't be much larger than 2A. The peak current is drawn from the additional caps...

Thanks Jorge, Where can i find the E-STV9379A? You had a typo in your number) Mouser doesnt stock them any longer.

And what benefit do the new A version have over the Stock version.

Nash,

Sorry for the typo, it was a long text Wink -> FIXED!
The -A version is capable of driving 2.6A instead of 2.0A current. So, as a replacement, it has a larger safety margin and will run a bit cooler. Otherwise it's identical. I got mine from Mouser in Germany. You might try Farnell or other distributors...

Nash,

I bought mine off of UTsource. Cost was around $2 each plus shipping I think. I got my 20 TLE's and some other stuff from them at the same time so I can not remember exactly.....

Hi,

Yes, these would work. The first one is a double one. So You would use only one half of it and cut away the other two connectors...

Regards,
Barclay66

EDIT:
You might wonder, why You should use one half only of the 1.2mH chokes and install two of them for each of the rails (+/-15V) instead of just using one choke and connecting its first half to the +15V and the second to the -15V.
But: If You don't separate them, the choke might work like a transformer. E.g. one noise spike on the +15V rail would be transferred to the -15V rail as well...
If You don't want to use these ones, You might consider using these instead: http://de.farnell.com/bourns-jw-miller/1140-122k-rc/high-current-choke-1-2mh-5-5a-10/dp/1185414

Gentlemen,

I will be swapping out the CL499's on my VIM shortly.

I looked in the MP article but it is a hot mess. What IC numbers do I need to replace? I have a 50-2035-02P that I am working on at the moment.

Also, What about that R152 sync on Green mod he had posted? Is it recommended?

Thanks,

James

What Chips are you using James? The Intersil EL5166's? Then ok if not Id leave the CLC 449's in.

I never did the sync on green mod. I left it in so I could use it for trouble shooting , to see if its the VIM RGB's or the Source's RGB's , then I could just hook up a Composite to green to see if i get an image. But it is rare that a failure happens and it is easy to just add that resistor back. So go ahead and take it out.

I am using the EL5166's. As we discussed it is just easier then some of the other chips.

I did the VNB's also and I must say. I can see noise now that was not there before swapping out the 2 IC's. I would like to look into filtering some of that out. Also, I am debating on swapping out the SMD tants on both the VIM and VNB's to Organic Polymer to try and help but am not sure just yet.

Nash,

So is there just three chips on the VIM that I need to swap out or are there six?

I only saw the three CL499's off hand by the resistors that are added on to the SMD parts and one more in the top right hand corner.

MP was talking about six in his VIM post but non of the IC part locations match up with what I have on my VIM.

Cool, I have an 02P. So it is only three then.

Thanks for the sanity check.

While Justin is here helping set up my blend I added 20uf 700VDC Film caps to his G2 lines in HVPS based on Chris Stevens wet tantalum mod. These will work better I bet.

Nice job.

I still need to collect more parts for the remaining mods I want to do to my projector. Including what you have just done to Justin's HVPS.

I have been looking at finishing off the VIM mods. I have some Ideas but need to look at the schematic more first though.

Might have found another replacement for the CLC 449 op Amp

http://www.mouser.com/ds/2/282/snosa47a-64289.pdf

It says it is an improved replacement. it says it can reach bandwidths higher than 1.5ghz but needs a high
input current to do so. What is the input current to the Op amps on there now?

Been playing around last night with the Texas Instruments OPA 695 op Amp on the 02 vim. It has a BW with a +2 gain of 1450Mhz. The 511 ohm Feedback and gain resistors suggested for that gain( gain of CLC 449) give too much gain on the Vim so I used a 560ohm i had and it looks much better, a slightly higher value might work a bit better or adding a 10nf cap across the supply pins might tame things. But it looks pretty good and scoped about the same or maybe a little better than the CLC 449.

I still have to do more testing but my test machine is a hodge podge of parts since i used parts from it to make a working unit to trade for another Pj.

Steve if you read this I know you used this amp, what value feedback and gain resistors did you end up using?
