Dennis,

Did you try to install the switch? I don't believe anyone (MP included) has been successful with that as of yet.

I am still having some instability in the projected image on all three tubes.

I have complete the basic cap upgrade on the HDM now and re-seated all chips on the CLM. I have not touched the VIM or done any mods to the CLM.

What do you guys suggest my next steps/mods be to aid in resolving this issue?

James

yes i did and it works just fine, no problems whatsoever.

i can even switch on and off internal video while the pj is running.

there was a long discussion about the line fix and the elevated black level so your gamma gets messed up when the techbulletin fix is done.

i believe stridsvogen was the ts of this thread.

I was experimenting with that mod, with advice from MP but never found any solution, so i would be very interested in knowing how you fixed this. Thumbs Up

I'm also down for knowing more about your fix as well. Would be nice to document in my Spreadsheet along with the other stuff in this thread. All of which will be made available in one place here in this thread and on the Facebook CRT Club file section when I have finished.

i just did what mp did and that`s simply lifting the v+ supply pins of u106 and putting a switch on it.

i don`t have a camera maintenant but will post some pics later.

I never was able to do that. My U106 is socket mounted, but if its the cure, ill have to find somewhere else to cut the supply. Or find another board.

Is there no side effects to that solution ?

Dennis-

Just to be sure this is the same problem, did the line show up in the same general location as in this thread: https://www.curtpalme.com/forum_archived/viewtopic.php@t=32865.html

I emailed MP about this and he thinks it's being generated from the CLM as one of the many pedestals on the VIM. From what he told me all of his VIM's are non stock and it doesn't sound like he modified any of them to fix this issue. He also said this problem doesn't appear on the 03 VIM.

That is one of the problems I have as well Justin.

My line is present on all colours but less bright on the green although still highly visible.

I would like to have this gone as well as it is annoying as heck.

yes, that is the line.

i have seen this line on 03p vims but maybe there are different versions of the 03p vim, but if this line is generated on the clm i don`t see how that makes a difference.

TV/Projector: Marquee 9500 Ultra

Hi,

I did some research on the MACH111 CPLD (U106). What we would need here would be an easy option for shutting down its outputs without creating problems elsewhere. As with most logic devices I would look for some chip enable (CE) or output enable (OE) pins providing the desired function, BUT: The MACH111 doesn't have any! In fact it is capable of shutting off its outputs but it has to be programmed in order to do so. It would require programming an input line to the output controls but the current programming doesn't have that.
I tried out what the input at pin 10 (I0) would do if it was pulled to ground but the effect was a completely black picture and so I left it untouched.
Taking away the power from U106 (at pins 22 & 44) doesn't seem to be a good solution either.
Next thing I'd try would be replacing U104 (74AC05, Hex Inverter) with an 74F366 (Hex Inverter with Output Enable) and see what happens if the outputs are switched off. I'd have to check what side effects could happen as three of the six inverters are being used for video output and the other three are controlling a grey scale DAC...

Regards,

The line (or distortion) in the image is coming from Pin 27 of U106. It is the switching control feed into the VIM that switches the video signal from the Internal Pattern Generator to the EXTernal source (Moome/BNC's).

On that same control line, they also impose some OSD display directly into the video chain thru the SD5401's, like Contrast, Bright, etc. that is completely separate from the individual RGB generator feeds into the VIM for convergence, etc.

Why not remove the Internal video on the vim by removing power from the Internal Video op amp on the Vim or by adding a switch to the Int-Vid for each color right at the connector?

The place of insert into the video chain is through V-Sel on SD5401. They're using the same pin on the SD5401 that switches the signal from INT/EXT as also an insert of the OSD.

The CLC415 is not involved.

The way i look at it is the internal video goes in on Pin 4 of U13, in my snap shot, then V-SEl switches it in and out when needed. So if you cut it out before it gets to U13 then the noise would also get cut off.

So what is the consensus here; if pin 27 i slifted on U106 this problem will be rectified but there may be other options such as removing power to internal amp on VIM?

47uF 6v Tantalum Polymer A case low ESR worth the extra for use in the CLM? I would like to use organic polymer but it looks like they are available only in D case.

http://ca.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Kemet/T520A476M006ATE150/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMtZ1n0r9vR22Sg7zhV3kdNmJWAKeaqFdPs%3d

I looks like these have a much lower ESR then the standard Tantalum and are about $30 more for 200 then the plain tants as well.

I am approaching the home stretch in my board upgrades finishing off the TLE upgrade and putting my ocson's across them in the FCM and VDM.Also I upgraded to the A version of the STV chips on the VDM. I also need to put the shunt regulators on the DAC's on the CLM small signal board and FCM.After that I only need to finish up my VNB's with the chip upgrade and put the oscon's on them and add a film SMT cap as was suggested in one position. I will then move on to the CLM and VIM mods shortly there after as I have most of those parts ready to go with the exception of the Tant caps.

I have a question as well regarding the ceramic disc caps I have seen some people have on their VNB's from the SMT part (Diode?) to the ground plain. What value are these parts?

Also if anybody has other suggestions. I am looking for other ways to continue to increase the stability of my image as I notice it still bounces around a bit. Not sure if that is normal for the 9500 or not. I did add clamp on ferrite's to the Stig cables but think I need to add a larger type as it did not offer up a large improvement but did reduce the shaking some and I did have to redo my electronic stig adjustment afterwords. The Mechanical might need some touch-up also. I will get to that later on though. I am still wanting to upgrade the VIM to VNB video cables with a higher quality 75ohm Canare cable that I have here or do the SMA style connector upgrade.

James
