I looked again and could find 16v and 20v 22uf in large quantity. I have not looked at the volatge on the VCC- and VCC+ pins. I would think that the 16v would be a smaller size and the leads would work better on the opamp pins. Would there be issue with the 16v or should I just stick to 20v? Either way I will grab up all that I can to do all of the boards. I think I am going to tackle the VNB's and boards on the back sink next.

Hi James, You might try these... $6 for 10 seems to be the going rate for NOS 22uf oscons, but I can go lower on higher quantities. I have about 200-300 left.

I have a load of 140uf 60v wet tants. Pic of mine here. Can you post a pic of yours wet tantalums?

Also can you post pics of your oscon decoupling caps installed on the opamps?
Thanks

Hi
Thanks for reminding me about the oscon decoupling idea I put 5 on my VIM so far and love the results!

Where on the vim did you put them?
Nashou |
Hi nashou
I put one across the opamps in the video chain on the VIM. I went with negative pin to v- and positive pin to v+. It seems that they work as a good video "noise" filter. (I would estimate that the video "noise" visable on te face of my tubes is about 1/3 to 1/2 less than it was before I put them on )

Mark,
I picked up 200pcs of 20v 22uF SA series OS-CON's for $45 shipped from one of my normal sources.
I figured that should keep me covered for my two projectors.

wow, such a big imrpovement!
i thought they used simple 100nf for that purpose but if you say 22uf oscons work much better i will give it a try also as well as on my vim of course.

Dennis leave the 100nf's there but just add the 22uf OsCon across the voltage pins of each op amp.
Mark Try those wet tans on the incoming power rails of the vim, usually higher values like 560uf and up work better but possibly putting
the 140uf there might help , you could even try paralleling then to make a 280uf 30v cap if they can fit.
One thing I wanted to try was adding caps to the HVPS like Chris did, but caps for that in the wet tant variety will cost hundreds of dollars.
So Justin and I have been wanting to try some newer Film caps there, there is a 20uf 630v cap that physically might fit there in parallel to the existing .47uf caps. I just have been interested in other things lately and have not thought or had time to try these ideas myself.
I was looking at the Clarity caps, Either the SA series in the 20uf value http://www.partsconnexion.com/capacitor_film_clarity_sa.html
Or the TC series in 33uf Value http://www.partsconnexion.com/capacitor_film_clarity_tc.html, up to 33uf they have the tined leads.
The massive increase in Cap Value to the .47uf should give the HVPS more head room for wide video transients like from black to white and possibly provide a more stable focus according to Chris. He says it does but I have never seen one of his Wet tant modded
PJ's He did say that the Film caps might even work better then the wet tant he used but back then he could not find a higher value film cap to physically fit in the HVPS.
Just some food for thought

HI,
Yep, I have them on the power inputs of several boards. (VIM, CLM, Neck cards etc) I forgot that I was going to try to fit a string of 10 of my 60v 140uf wet tants in the HVPS. (I was told putting them in series 1/2 the uf and 2x the voltage they can take. That would give me effectively 14uf in wet tants in the hvps)
Thanks
God bless...
Mark

Hi. Here is a pic of my VIM sporting some new oscons Video noise is so low I can't seem to see it unless I look t the tube face. (I'm somewhat of an ocular freak... I still have 20/10 vision at age 39, and let's just say if its on screen, I will see it and it will bug me)
http://entertainment.webshots.com/photo/2257467720032235899ZuLjxo.
So I'd say this is right up there w my favorite mods ever
Oh and I remembered that I am running a series of 10 140uf 60v wet tantalum caps in my hvps for the last three years. As I recall the best thing that mod did was lower the video noise floor.
God bless...

One other note turns out I am still using THS3061 opamps for the video chain on the neck cards.
One other note. The oscon upgrade seems to increase my gamma so I had to adjust the grayscale to keep things right

One more note, I noticed in passing last night that my focus if sharper, especially edge focus. (I've been noticing that my edge focus was getting bad for a while but the oscons on the vim seem to have helped make it shaper overall.

It's time for you to put away those damn golf clubs so we can get down to business with the power supplies I still think this mod will do more than anything else to improve dynamic range.

I'm surprised you use those chips. the Gain band Flatness is only 100mhz but at V2 not unity gain. Did you change the FB resistors to what the spec sheet specifies because that will also lower overall bandwith. It is only a 300mhz chip compared to the original CLC449 of 1.2ghz and the EL5166 I use. And also the higher bandwith of the THS is with a 15 volt supply the VNB and Vim use 5 volts.

Hi,
One other mod I want to do this winter is remove one set of the blue relays on the VIM. Does anyone have suggestions on how to do that and what is needed?
Thanks
God bless...
