I spoke with Graham before making this so I think it should be good. He and I both agree that it wouldn't hurt and if the numbers are high enough I think he would reconsider the option of creating new setup DVDs for different projectors. (hopefully I didn't read too much into his emails as we had discussed only a XG option) In any case if you would be interested in having a setup DVD made by a pro for your projector please vote. Its up to Graham how many people it would take for him to creat one, but it won't hurt to give it a try. I'm personally pulling for a XG option.

Please only vote for the projector you would be willing to commit to buy. This will give an accurate count so we can make sure it will be worth his time.

I am pretty good at setting up a Marquee but there is always room for improvement and those little secrette's we all don't know.

I'm pretty sure that you'd sell equal amounts of each DVD. Less probably for the Ampro, but I'd send Pete a free copy.. Smile

Heck, people are buying Graham's DVD even though they don't own a Sony..

It would be interesting to see how many PG owners would be interested- even if only as a "add-on" model specific addition to the XG setup disc.

If it were me, I'd do two set up DVDs:
1) Sony, Barco, Quee.
2) NEC

For number 1, I would simply do the DVD with one of the projectors. Then I would do two things:
1) Include a "cheat sheet" that tells the person what the adjustment is called on their PJ and how it is accessed.
2) Include a brand specific chapter on the DVD if necessary.

Given the mess that is the NEC, the cheat sheet would likely not be enough, hence the need for an NEC specific disc.

So far this thread is going very slow. Kinda what Graham had predicted, although I thought we might have quite a few early on. In any case I will leave this open for a week or maybe two and we'll see. I was really hoping for someone to show me how to setup this NEC better. I know the current setup dvd would help, but it would be a lot better if it included NEC specific things. I cannot overlook the write up that Curt has provided as it is really good, but I learn more by actually seeing someone do it. I've got a general idea on how everything works, but have never seen a person setup a crt before much less with the more compicated NEC controls. I had intentions to hire a pro or someone to setup my crt in a few months from now but my better half will simply not allow this.

How many yes's do you need before the project is a go?

Maybe set up a pre-buy. If you're doing nec...i'm in for the price. Thumbs Up

Guys, these polls are absolutely meaningless. The people that WANT these setup dvds are the people out in the wild that don't follow the forum every day. If you're here reading you likely know what you're doing.

For example:

Graham sold ~40 of his Sony 1292 setup DVDs in the first 8 months through his original thread on AVS. Most sold in the first month when the idea was new then it died off. 8 months later I thought it would be a good idea to post it here. I sent out a newsletter and he sold 70-80 in the first week and has been selling 15-20 every month for the last 12 months!

If he makes setup DVDs for other brand projectors, they *WILL* sell. I guarantee you that.

I think Graham should make one DVD that's all inclusive. He could start with a general "how to" chapter that applies to all CRT PJs, then have dedicated chapters for different makes/brands.

I have been throwing around ideas about what to do next. To be quite honest a further CRT projector disk wasnt on the horizon. After this I still dont think it is too good an idea.

People will aways want/need a product specific to their equipment. A generic disk for all intents and purposes is what is available now.

I even thought a visual dictionary and brain dump on connection methods for hoime theatre with explainations about various projection technologies, plasma/LCD types strengths and weaknesses, connection methods, disk/tape formats, audio codecs, screens etc etc could have a market being sold to basically everyone but targetted to beginners who know little or nothing.

Kal and Curts site have been very good to me. Its just a matter of the next thing to do.
