I get scared when it comes to taking projectors apart. I'd hate to screw something up worse than it already is.

I am kind of under the gun with this because I talked it up the 8110 so much to the guys I bought it with and now I feel like they're a bit underwhelmed. Luckily I think we've got a buyer for the D50 so there shouldn't be too much cash floating around overall.

to really make it shine you need to feed it HD at least 720p which i think looks better than 1080i on mine. but i run 1080p from a LG bh100 combo player to a lumagen HDQ then to the moome VIM-hd. the moome was a big improvment over the RGBHV inputs.

I was too but they are not that hard to work on, i started in decmber 2006 and now i am doing bopard level mods to my projectors. baby steps. learn slowly yet thorough. Be patient and careful , setting up the magnetics was the hardes and scariest thing(the deflection yolke straightening) but it was needed to make the convergence rock solid. Astig magnets are time cnsumimng but well worth it. do a little at a time and have fun..thats what its all about. you should also once you get it all set up maybe look at the marquee maintanence thread under the advanced proceadure secton of this site or over on AVSforums. hats what got me hooked, Mike Parker took the marquee to new levels.

Smart thinking .

Save those advance procedures for later when you understand how it works and you are feeding you projector a signal worthy of fine tuning .

You start f*cking with your magnetics and right off the bat with the sources you have... you will be f*ck***.

The Marquee has no internal processing like your D50 had . you should start by looking into upgrading your sources If you cannot upgrade your cable to high def or get a high def dvd player then all the EXPENSIVE transcoders will not help one bit .

You do not need to get into Bill blu'e procedures to get a good pic or buy a moome card to accept cable signals from a vcr, you need to start off with good sources then worry about transcoders.

if you do not have high def sources and you watch cable TV , SD dvd's and you do not want to spend a lot of money upgrading , then you might start off with a good inexpensive scaler which will scale and act as a transcoder all in one .

Curt Has a couple that should work ok for you to start , The Focus Enhancements Quadscan Elite He has for sale should do OK for all your SD sources you have.

PS you might want to check this out !! IT would be hard to get any cheaper solution and Clarence figures it is one of best under $200 solutions there is

Hey,

Get a hirez monitor cable,.. the type with VGA in one end and 5 BNC's on the other and hook up a PC or a laptop to the Marquee with 720p.

It's going to be better then you thought,.. so don't worry.

Of course the source is the best thing to upgrade but he was also asking why the pic did not look as good as his D50, and since i do not know his skill level with setting up CRT's I was just giving him all the possible avenues. When i first got my marquee and finaly set it up in january or 2007 I read almost every thing I could about the marquee and took it apart and looked at how and where evrything was before i even tried to set it up. So when i was finaly setting it up i knew my way around the set and was familiar with everything. sure it looked good when i first started but after a week of going trough everything the peoper way it all just came to gether and looked a thousand times better.

like I said earlier, take your time and have fun, if you get frustrated ..come here and ask for help.

Right now there's an upright piano in the middle of mine. Sad Trying to find it a good home so I can finish the buildout!

those big black lines are gaps between scan lines, it's just as simple as that. 480i or 480 is way too low of a resolution for an 8110. You need to run at least 1080i and up to 720P for the sweet spot. In order to do that you need either an outboard video scaler or an upscaling DVD player feeding into the Moome card. forget about S-video or composite, that's for people with home theatre learning disability's.
